Things are getting very rocky.
Sen. Ron Johnson, R-Wis., has issued a stark warning to Republicans — and to the American people — saying President Donald Trump’s agenda could be in real danger if the GOP fails to act decisively against Democrat power plays in Washington.
During a Sunday appearance on Fox News’ Sunday Morning Futures, Johnson warned that Democrats are preparing to “nuke the filibuster” the next time they gain full control of Congress — a move he says would permanently tip the balance of power and silence conservative voices for good.
“Every single Democrat running for Senate has pledged to eliminate the filibuster,” Johnson said. “Once they take power, they’ll destroy it — and they’ll use that power to lock in control for generations.”
Johnson said Republicans have to wake up to what’s happening — and stand behind President Trump’s call to go nuclear now to break through Democrat obstruction that has paralyzed Congress and shut down the government.
“Democrats are keeping the government closed because they don’t want the economy to do well,” Johnson said. “They don’t want President Trump getting credit for America’s success — so they’re doing everything they can to stop it.”
The Wisconsin senator warned that if Democrats eliminate the Senate’s 60-vote rule, they’ll be able to ram through any bill they want — from open borders to socialist spending — with just 50 votes.
Without the filibuster, Johnson said, Republicans could finally move ahead with commonsense priorities like:
- Securing the border and stopping illegal immigration
- Protecting election integrity
- Repealing the damage caused by Obamacare
- Restoring fiscal responsibility and economic freedom
“Democrats will use the nuclear option to gain power. Republicans must use it to protect America,” Johnson said firmly.
Johnson’s comments come as many conservatives grow increasingly concerned that Democrats are willing to rewrite the rules of government to hold onto power — no matter the cost to the country.
As Johnson put it, the stakes couldn’t be higher: “If Republicans don’t act now, the next Democrat majority will make sure conservatives never get another chance.”
