Here’s what was said.
Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. recently raised eyebrows after commenting on President Donald Trump’s eating habits — even as he praised the president’s remarkable stamina and energy.
Speaking during an appearance on The Katie Miller Podcast, Kennedy was asked which cabinet member has the most unconventional diet. His response quickly turned toward President Trump.
Kennedy said he is repeatedly surprised by how energetic the president remains, given his well-known fondness for fast food and Diet Coke.
“The president eats really bad food — McDonald’s and Diet Coke,” Kennedy said. “Yet he has an incredibly strong constitution. I honestly don’t know how he keeps going.”
Since teaming up with President Trump in an effort to align the Make America Healthy Again (MAHA) initiative with the broader MAGA agenda, Kennedy has openly pushed for healthier dietary standards — even while acknowledging the president’s personal preferences.
As a longtime critic of highly processed foods, Kennedy has helped lead the administration’s push to encourage food manufacturers to remove controversial additives, including certain artificial dyes, from everyday products.
Last week, the White House also introduced a redesigned food pyramid that emphasizes protein and healthy fats, marking a shift away from older federal dietary guidelines.
Kennedy told host Katie Miller that President Trump eats significantly healthier meals when he is at the White House or at Mar-a-Lago. The concern, he said, arises mainly when the president is traveling.
“When you’re on the road with him, it can look like he’s filling himself with unhealthy food all day,” Kennedy said. “And yet he’s still the most energetic person in the room.”
Trump’s food choices while traveling are also influenced by his well-known concern about cleanliness and food safety. According to Kennedy, the president prefers meals from large, established chains because he trusts their consistency.
“He says that’s really the only time he eats junk food,” Kennedy explained. “He doesn’t want to risk getting sick while traveling.”
During the final weeks of the 2024 presidential campaign, Trump drew national attention after briefly working a shift at a McDonald’s in Pennsylvania. Following his election victory, he jokingly persuaded Kennedy to pose for photos with a Big Mac and a Coca-Cola aboard his private plane.
“I even got Bobby Kennedy to eat a Big Mac,” Trump later joked. “He told me he loved it.”
Despite their lighthearted disagreements, President Trump has echoed some of Kennedy’s broader health recommendations to the public, emphasizing the importance of informed choices and personal responsibility.
Kennedy concluded by noting that Trump’s overall health metrics remain impressive.
“He has incredible health,” Kennedy said, adding that Dr. Mehmet Oz reviewed the president’s medical records and remarked on unusually strong indicators for someone over 70.
“I know the president will be happy that I shared that,” Kennedy added.
