Newsom is trying to get revenge on the GOP.

California Gov. Gavin Newsom has launched an unprecedented political offensive against President Donald Trump and the state of Texas — unveiling a November ballot measure designed to redraw California’s congressional map in a way that could hand Democrats up to five new House seats.

The move, announced Friday alongside former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, bypasses California’s independent redistricting commission — a system Democrats once claimed protected “fair elections.” Critics say it’s nothing more than a calculated power grab before the 2026 midterms.

Direct Counterattack on Texas

Newsom admitted the maneuver is a direct retaliation against Texas and its Republican-led redistricting plan, which has Trump’s full backing. Texas aims to create several new GOP-leaning districts, balancing years of Democrat gerrymandering across the country.

Surrounded by California Democrats and Texas lawmakers who fled their state to block a Republican vote, Newsom painted the move as “transparent” and “temporary.” But in reality, it’s a fast-track scheme to rig the map in favor of the Left.

Newsom Takes Aim at Trump and Abbott

“We’ll pick up five seats with the consent of the people,” Newsom boasted, before launching personal attacks on both Gov. Greg Abbott and President Trump. He accused them of “dialing for seats” to protect Republicans from what he called “midterm headwinds.”

But conservatives point out the hypocrisy: Democrats are openly re-engineering districts while accusing Republicans of election manipulation.

Texas Democrats Flee, GOP Pushes Back

In Texas, Democrats have once again abandoned their posts, leaving the state to avoid a quorum and block the GOP map. The Texas House requires two-thirds of members present to conduct business, but Democrats vow to stay away until the special session ends later this month.

Texas Speaker Dustin Burrows has issued arrest warrants for the missing members, and Gov. Abbott has ordered law enforcement to detain them upon return — a move widely supported by Republicans.

Pelosi’s “Self-Defense” Claim

Pelosi defended the walkout as “self-defense for our democracy,” a claim conservatives say is laughable given the Left’s own brazen redistricting push. She accused Trump of trying to “pave over” fair elections, even as her party works to redraw maps in their favor.

Maps Coming Soon — Critics Cry Foul

California Assembly Speaker Robert Rivas confirmed the new maps will be released next week. Voters will have just weeks to review them before casting ballots in what could become one of the most partisan power plays in U.S. history.

Bottom line: Democrats are no longer hiding their intent. This is an open war on Republican representation — and California is leading the charge.
