There was something very strange on Musk’s face.
Washington, D.C. – In a surprise moment that lit up the press room, billionaire Elon Musk appeared at the White House on Friday sporting a noticeable black eye — drawing gasps and speculation from reporters and viewers alike.
Musk, 53, made the appearance alongside President Donald J. Trump to mark the conclusion of his 130-day service in the Trump administration as a special government advisor focused on reducing federal waste.
“Just got a little shiner,” Musk said with a grin. “Wasn’t in France — just horsing around with Little X. Told him to go ahead and punch me. He did.”
The tech mogul’s appearance quickly went viral, especially after photos surfaced showing the injury during a separate event Thursday, where Musk unveiled SpaceX’s long-term vision to establish human life on Mars.

A Mission to Cut Billions in Government Waste
Musk wasn’t in D.C. for show. As part of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) — a Trump-era initiative — he and his team worked directly with federal agencies to identify and eliminate wasteful spending, outdated programs, and unnecessary grants.
“Between colonizing Mars and reforming the U.S. government, it’s a toss-up,” Musk told reporters. “But we’re making progress, and the goal is to save taxpayers trillions.”
While his initial projections aimed for $2 trillion in savings, the DOGE department has already confirmed $175 billion in reductions, equating to roughly $1,087 per American taxpayer.
Speaker of the House Mike Johnson (R-La.) confirmed the savings will be reflected in upcoming appropriations bills — and highlighted that Trump’s “One Big Beautiful Bill” includes $1.5 trillion more in targeted cuts.
Musk Leaves, But the Mission Continues
During his Friday sendoff, Musk kept it light — wearing a black “Dogefather” T-shirt and a DOGE hat — but his tone was serious about the future.
“This isn’t the end of DOGE,” Musk said. “It’s only the beginning. The team will grow stronger.”
Speculation swirled on social media platform X, where users debated the origin of Musk’s black eye. Some claimed it was from sparring. Others joked it came from the bureaucracy itself.
Before he left, President Trump awarded Musk the symbolic “Key to the White House” — an honor previously reserved for close allies like Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
“He’ll be back,” President Trump said. “I’ve got a feeling.”
