The crowd laughed at the trolling, but Newsom wasn’t amused. A likely 2028 Democrat presidential contender, he scolded the audience: “This is serious, guys, this is serious.” He went on to accuse President Donald J. Trump of not believing in “free, fair elections,” dragging out the January 6th line Democrats cling to whenever they’re on defense.

Meanwhile, President Trump is leaning into the joke. Inside the White House, Trump keeps a room filled with MAGA merchandise — including hats that read “Trump 2028” and “4 More Years.” Visitors from around the world are invited to pick souvenirs before leaving.
Trump chuckled as he pointed out one of the hats to Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, saying it “makes the left lose their minds.” He added, “Technically they say you can’t run for a third term — but I’m leading by nearly 30 points. Everyone is begging me to stay in the race.”
