Liberals are turning on the Obama family.
Liberal circles are in full meltdown after Bill Maher publicly pushed back against former First Lady Michelle Obama’s claim that America “isn’t ready” for a woman president. The comments sparked backlash across the Left — and revealed a deep split inside the Democratic Party.
During Friday’s episode of HBO’s Real Time, Maher said he was stunned that Michelle Obama would blame Kamala Harris’ defeat on supposed nationwide sexism rather than on Harris’ own failed record. Maher called Obama’s argument “logical fallacy 101,” questioning why Democrats continue to blame voters instead of their candidates.
Michelle Obama recently declared that Americans “aren’t ready” for a female commander-in-chief following Harris’ overwhelming loss to President Donald Trump in 2024. Obama insisted, “Don’t even look at me about running… You’re not ready for a woman.” She claimed the country “still has a lot of growing up to do.”
Maher said that’s simply not true.
According to Maher, voters didn’t reject women — they rejected those specific Democratic candidates. “Just because people didn’t like Hillary Clinton or Kamala Harris doesn’t mean America isn’t ready for a woman leader,” Maher said. He reminded viewers that competence, leadership, and results still matter more than identity politics.
Maher even took a light jab at Obama’s tone, suggesting she sounded more frustrated than factual: “We said we were ready for a Black president — someone should remember that.”
Surprisingly, former DNC chair Donna Brazile agreed with Maher. She noted that millions of Americans voted for Clinton and Harris and cited polling showing 80% of Americans say they would support a female president. Brazile dismissed Obama’s claim outright, calling it “nonsense.”
Their exchange exposed what many conservatives have pointed out for years: Democratic leaders blame sexism, racism, and the voters themselves — anything except their own failed policies and candidates.
With top Democrats publicly contradicting Michelle Obama, the Left’s identity-politics narrative is cracking, and many Americans — especially older, patriotic voters — are taking notice.
