In a stunning turn, liberal comedian Bill Maher publicly admitted that President Donald Trump’s economic policies—especially tariffs—worked. Yes, you read that right.
On his Club Random podcast, Maher came clean during a conversation with progressive YouTuber Brian Tyler Cohen. He acknowledged that Trump’s approach to trade didn’t collapse the economy as the Left had predicted—in fact, quite the opposite.
Maher: “I’ve Got to Own It — Trump Was Right”
“I thought the economy would tank by the Fourth of July because of Trump’s tariffs,” Maher confessed. “That didn’t happen.”
He went on to say, “The stock market is at record highs, people are out living their lives, and I don’t see a country in a depression.”
This rare moment of clarity from the far Left reinforces what millions of Americans already know: President Trump’s America First policies are working.
Liberal Bias vs. Economic Reality
Maher even admitted that blind hatred of Trump led many on the Left—including himself—into false narratives.
“Starting from ‘I just hate Donald Trump’ is boring,” Maher said. “It doesn’t get us anywhere. It leads to dishonesty.”
He also said he didn’t fully understand Trump’s strategy at the time but now sees the results plainly.
Tariffs That Put America First
Since taking office, Trump has imposed tariffs on countries like China and members of the European Union—moves long overdue to fix decades of one-sided trade deals that hurt American workers and industries.
Just this week, Trump finalized a new trade deal with the EU that applies a 15% tariff on most European goods imported into the U.S., further strengthening domestic manufacturing and American jobs.
Even the Left Can’t Deny the Results
Maher has previously mocked Trump’s efforts to bring back U.S. manufacturing and even rooted for a recession. But now, faced with undeniable economic success, he’s changing his tune.
“I’ve got to own it,” he said. “These tariffs didn’t sink the economy. We need to face that fact.”
Cohen: “I Was Wrong Too”
Even Cohen, known for his anti-Trump commentary, acknowledged that predictions can be way off.
“If I were good at predicting things, Hillary Clinton would’ve been president in 2016,” he joked.
