The Kennedy family is very upset.

In another swipe at President Donald Trump, the Kennedy political dynasty is lashing out over a new Republican proposal to honor First Lady Melania Trump at one of the nation’s most iconic cultural landmarks.

Jack Schlossberg, grandson of President John F. Kennedy, took to social media Tuesday to criticize House Republicans for backing a measure that would rename the Kennedy Center’s world-renowned Opera House the “First Lady Melania Trump Opera House.”

Quoting his grandfather, Schlossberg wrote, “A nation reveals itself not only by the men it produces — but also by the men it honors.” He went on to accuse President Trump of trying to erase the Kennedy legacy, calling the renaming “not about the arts,” but about Trump’s supposed obsession with outshining American heroes.

But conservatives see it differently.

Rep. Mike Simpson (R-Idaho), who introduced the amendment as part of a broader federal funding bill, called the move “an excellent way to recognize Melania Trump’s unwavering commitment to the arts, culture, and American values.”

This follows President Trump’s bold decision earlier this year to clean house at the Kennedy Center, removing what he called a “woke and out-of-touch” board of trustees and appointing new leadership that aligns with American traditions and patriotic values. Trump now serves as chairman of the Kennedy Center’s board—a clear signal of restoring balance to an institution long criticized for political bias.

Schlossberg, a 32-year-old descendant of Democrat royalty and the son of Obama-era ambassador Caroline Kennedy, has frequently used his platform to attack Trump. In this latest post, he accused the Trump administration of suppressing free expression—despite the First Lady’s long-standing record of promoting art, education, and classical American culture.

While critics rage online, many Americans see the proposed renaming as a well-deserved tribute. Melania Trump has quietly supported numerous arts programs, children’s initiatives, and restoration efforts—all while maintaining grace under fire in a media landscape overwhelmingly hostile to her family.

“Trump is obsessed with being bigger than JFK,” Schlossberg claimed in his post to nearly 700,000 followers. But for millions of Americans who remember what real class and elegance look like, honoring Melania Trump at the Kennedy Center is not about ego—it’s about restoring dignity, tradition, and pride in America’s cultural institutions.

As the debate rages, one thing is clear: the Trump legacy continues to trigger the old political guard. But this time, it’s conservatives who are standing up for history, heritage, and the First Lady who never backed down.
