In a statement released Wednesday, Heigl defended her decision to attend the fundraiser, emphasizing that helping animals should never be a controversial issue.
“Animals can’t cast a vote,” Heigl said. “The one place they fear most is the euthanasia room at a shelter. Their lives depend entirely on the choices we make, because they have no way to speak for themselves.”

Heigl attended the Wine, Women & Shoes fundraiser benefiting Big Dog Ranch Rescue, one of the largest no-kill dog rescue organizations in the United States.
The event took place Sunday at Trump’s Mar-a-Lago club, which has hosted numerous charitable events and high-profile gatherings over the years.
According to organizers, the fundraiser was a massive success.
Big Dog Ranch Rescue announced the event raised an impressive $5.5 million to help rescue, rehabilitate, and rehome thousands of dogs across the country.
Heigl said the cause is deeply personal to her.
“This event was about animal advocacy — something that has always been deeply personal to me,” she explained. “Anyone who knows me understands that protecting animals is one of my greatest passions.”

Despite the charity focus, some critics on social media questioned why the actress attended an event hosted at Trump’s famous Florida property.
Heigl did not stay silent. She responded directly to several comments on Instagram, urging people to focus on helping animals rather than attacking those trying to make a difference.

“Doesn’t matter,” she wrote. “Do you care about animals? If so donate — time, money, attention, your voice. It doesn’t matter who I am, only what I do.”
The actress also encouraged people to spend less time criticizing others online and more time supporting causes they believe in.
“Animals might not be your thing,” Heigl added. “But I bet you care deeply about something that matters. Do your part instead of wasting time scrolling and making comments.”

“I think some people are mountain people and some people are beach people,” she said. “I’m definitely a mountain person.”

“We went out to Los Angeles when I was 17 and hustled and hustled for years,” she explained. “At a certain point my mom realized I needed somewhere to escape to and clear my head. That grounded me.”
