Schumer won’t win and the GOP is making sure of it.
Senate Republicans are uniting behind President Donald Trump as Senate Majority Whip John Barrasso (R-Wyo.) goes on offense against Democrat obstruction led by Chuck Schumer.
With 145 Trump nominees stalled in the Senate—and the backlog growing—Barrasso says Republicans are ready to fight back against Schumer’s blockade of the President’s picks for key posts.
Before the August recess, GOP leaders were on the verge of a deal to fast-track dozens of Trump’s non-controversial appointments. But negotiations collapsed after Schumer pushed for more spending concessions, and Trump himself shut the door on any backroom deals.
Now, Barrasso is turning up the heat. In a Wall Street Journal op-ed and during a Fox News interview, he made it clear that Senate Republicans won’t sit back:
“We either get cooperation from Democrats—or we change the rules and let President Trump use his power for recess appointments,” Barrasso declared.
Schumer’s Obstruction Exposed
Schumer insists Trump’s nominees are “historically bad,” but Barrasso says Democrats are blocking them simply because they were chosen by Trump. Many of these appointees already won bipartisan approval in committee, yet Schumer continues to drag out the process.
Republicans are now weighing the nuclear option—changing Senate rules to shorten debate time and bypass Democrat filibusters. The move would allow Trump’s team to get to work without months of delays.
High Stakes as Deadline Nears
Congress faces a September 30 deadline to fund the government. Barrasso warned that Schumer’s blockade risks worsening the gridlock:
“This backlog is going to keep growing—it’s a traffic jam at the Schumer toll booth,” Barrasso said. “We are going to act, because this cannot stand.”
Republicans say speeding up confirmations is vital for Trump to carry out his agenda, secure America’s borders, and keep the government running efficiently despite Democrat obstruction.
