Democrats are at it again!
Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem forcefully responded Sunday after Democrats announced plans to pursue impeachment proceedings against her, following a fatal incident involving an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officer in Minneapolis last week.
Appearing on Sunday Morning Futures, Noem defended federal law enforcement officers and emphasized the serious dangers they face while carrying out their duties.
“These law enforcement officers are trained to handle dangerous and unpredictable situations,” Noem said. “They rely on that training every day to make difficult decisions under extreme pressure. I’m grateful for the professionals who stepped up, took an oath to serve this country, and continue to protect the American people.”
The incident at the center of the controversy involved Renee Nicole Good, who was fatally shot after allegedly accelerating her vehicle toward an ICE officer during an enforcement operation. According to Noem, Democrats are now using the tragedy to advance a political agenda she says would weaken public safety and undermine constitutional freedoms.
“It’s deeply troubling to see elected officials use a loss of life to divide the country,” Noem said. “They are pushing policies that would ultimately strip away freedoms and liberties Americans depend on.”
Noem also criticized Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, arguing that Democratic leaders are attempting to deflect attention from growing concerns surrounding his administration.
“Governor Walz’s corruption has been exposed,” Noem said, referencing a widely reported Minnesota fraud scandal. “Rather than taking responsibility, he’s trying to redirect attention away from his failed leadership.”
Despite the political pressure, Noem made clear that the Trump administration will continue enforcing federal law and holding criminals accountable.
The impeachment push is being led by Illinois Democrat Rep. Robin Kelly, who announced last week that she plans to introduce articles of impeachment against Noem. Kelly described the Homeland Security secretary as an “incompetent leader” and accused her of misconduct related to ICE operations.
In a January 7 statement, Kelly claimed Noem should be impeached for obstruction of justice, abuse of public trust, and self-dealing. She further alleged that ICE enforcement actions under Noem’s leadership have caused harm in several major cities.
Kelly framed the impeachment effort as part of her opposition to the administration’s immigration policies, arguing that they violate constitutional protections.
The renewed impeachment push highlights how Democrats are once again turning to impeachment tactics as political tensions rise, even as the Trump administration continues to emphasize border security, public safety, and support for law enforcement.
