Democrats are playing a very dirty game.
Democrats are launching a shocking new attack on President Donald Trump, accusing him of committing so-called “illegal” military actions — even though they cannot point to a single verified example. The latest escalation came from Rep. Adam Smith, D-Wash., during an appearance on CNN News Central, where he defended a controversial video urging U.S. service members to refuse orders from the commander-in-chief.
The video featured six Democratic lawmakers and instantly raised national security concerns. The Department of War responded by announcing a formal review into Sen. Mark Kelly, D-Ariz., for participating. Rather than addressing the seriousness of encouraging insubordination within the ranks, Smith attacked the Trump administration for investigating Kelly, calling it “protected political speech.”
When CNN host Boris Sanchez asked Smith directly whether he actually believes Trump issued illegal military orders, Smith doubled down.
“Yes, I do,” Smith claimed, criticizing Trump’s decisive actions against hostile vessels in the Caribbean. Many Americans, especially military families and national-security voters, view these strikes as necessary to protect U.S. interests, stop cartel activity, and deter authoritarian regimes in the region. Smith instead described the operations as lacking “probable cause” or congressional approval — despite presidents of both parties routinely authorizing similar actions.
Smith then made the explosive comparison that the War Department’s review of Kelly resembled “totalitarian government behavior,” even though it was the Democratic video that encouraged military personnel to question lawful orders from their elected commander-in-chief.
But the Democrats couldn’t even keep their own narrative straight.
Sen. Elissa Slotkin, D-Mich., who also appeared in the video, openly contradicted Smith on ABC’s This Week. When pressed on whether President Trump had issued any illegal orders, Slotkin admitted:
“I am not aware of things that are illegal.”
She attempted to soften the blow by mentioning “legal gymnastics” regarding U.S. strikes in the Caribbean and actions involving Venezuela — but again, she acknowledged no illegal activity.
For millions of Americans who remember years of baseless accusations, investigations, and media hysteria directed at President Trump, this appears to be yet another orchestrated political smear. Democrats are trying to frame strong foreign-policy decisions as “crimes,” all while offering zero evidence.
This latest episode reinforces what many conservative voters already believe: The Left is more interested in undermining President Trump than strengthening America’s national security.
