Here’s what happened.
A former Democratic fundraiser is revealing new details about a heated confrontation involving Ashley Biden, daughter of former President Joe Biden, after she says Ashley threatened her with a lawsuit over allegations surrounding the 2024 presidential campaign.
Lindy Li, who previously raised money for prominent Democratic candidates and worked within influential party circles, says the dispute erupted after she began publicly discussing concerns about Joe Biden’s age and his decision to seek another term.
According to Li, Ashley Biden responded with a strongly worded Instagram message threatening legal action.
The episode is now receiving renewed attention after Li described it in her book, Unburdened, and provided screenshots of the alleged post to Fox News Digital.
Ashley Biden Allegedly Warned Li About A Lawsuit
Li says Ashley Biden posted the message on Instagram in February 2025.
According to screenshots reviewed by Fox News Digital, Ashley accused Li of lying and challenged her to settle the matter in court.
According to Fox’s report, the message challenged Li to move forward with legal action if she was prepared to do so.
Li told the outlet that the Instagram post was removed roughly one day later.
As of Fox News Digital’s September 18, 2026 report, no resulting lawsuit was reported, and representatives for Ashley Biden had not responded to the outlet’s request for comment.
Li Says The Message Was Intended To Intimidate Her
Li believes the warning was designed to discourage her from continuing to discuss what she says she witnessed inside Democratic political circles.
Li told Fox News Digital that she believed the intention was to intimidate her and discourage her from speaking out.
That is Li’s interpretation of the episode, and there has been no public court ruling establishing that Ashley Biden or anyone else attempted to improperly intimidate her.
Li has nevertheless maintained that the confrontation was part of a broader backlash she experienced after speaking publicly about concerns surrounding Joe Biden during the 2024 election.
Ashley Biden Said She Didn’t Know Li
One portion of the reported Instagram message particularly surprised Li.
According to Li, Ashley Biden said she did not know her.
Li disputes that statement.
She told Fox News Digital that she had previously met Ashley Biden several times and supplied photographs showing the two women together.
“Doesn’t even pass the smell test,” Li said.
The photographs establish that the two had been together previously, although they do not by themselves establish the nature or closeness of their relationship.
Former Democratic Fundraiser Says Her Access Disappeared
Li had previously been involved in Democratic fundraising efforts and says she worked around major donors, party officials and figures connected to both Joe Biden and Kamala Harris.
Her relationship with Democratic leadership changed dramatically after she began criticizing Biden’s decision to remain in the presidential race.
Li recalled going on television and arguing that Biden should withdraw.
Biden subsequently ended his re-election campaign in July 2024.
Li says that after she began speaking publicly, she stopped receiving the kind of access she previously enjoyed.
She told the media that after speaking out, she was no longer invited to White House events and did not have any further conversations with Biden.
Li said that before the fallout, she had regularly attended White House events.
Her account offers a glimpse into the tensions that developed among Democrats as concerns over Biden’s candidacy became increasingly public during the 2024 campaign.
Biden’s Age Became A Major 2024 Issue
Questions surrounding Joe Biden’s age and performance had become a significant political issue well before he withdrew from the presidential race.
Those concerns grew dramatically following his June 27, 2024 debate against Donald Trump.
Biden eventually announced on July 21, 2024, that he would end his bid for another term.
Li now argues that people within Democratic circles had recognized warning signs earlier than they publicly acknowledged.
That broader allegation remains disputed and should be distinguished from the established fact that concerns about Biden’s age and political viability became a major public issue during the campaign.
Li Says Her Lawyers Were Not Concerned
Li also claims she discussed Ashley Biden’s threatened lawsuit with her attorneys.
According to Li’s account, her legal team believed a lawsuit could lead to an extensive discovery process involving documents, communications and testimony connected with the dispute.
Li said she remained confident in the accuracy of her own statements.
“Everything I said was true,” she said, adding that she was still waiting to hear precisely what statement would form the basis of a legal claim.
That remains Li’s position. No court has ruled on the truth of her broader allegations concerning what Democratic officials knew or said privately about Biden.
Why The Dispute Still Matters
The clash between Li and Ashley Biden highlights the continuing debate over what Democratic officials and insiders knew about concerns surrounding Joe Biden before he abandoned his re-election campaign.
Li’s account has drawn attention because she was not simply an outside political commentator. She had previously participated in Democratic fundraising circles and says she had direct contact with important figures and donors.
Her break with the party has since made her a vocal critic of its handling of Biden’s 2024 campaign.
For Ashley Biden, however, Li’s allegations involve not only politics but also her father and family.
That makes the confrontation deeply personal as well as political.
What is established from the current reporting is narrower: Li says Ashley Biden threatened to sue her in an Instagram post, Fox News Digital reported reviewing screenshots of that post, and the message was reportedly removed about a day later.
Whether Li’s broader allegations about internal Democratic discussions are ultimately supported by additional evidence remains a separate question.
For now, the previously private dispute provides another look at the turmoil surrounding Biden’s final months as a presidential candidate — and at the divisions that emerged among people who once operated within the same political coalition.
