Musk Spends Even More To Save Trump’s Midterms
Elon Musk is making another major financial commitment to Republicans as President Donald Trump and his allies fight to maintain control of Congress in the upcoming midterm elections.
The billionaire businessman has contributed approximately $77 million more to his political action committee, America PAC, during the first half of October, according to newly released Federal Election Commission filings.
The latest contributions bring Musk’s total political spending during the 2026 election cycle to approximately $445 million, making him the largest known individual donor in this year’s congressional elections.
With Election Day approaching on November 3, the additional funding could provide Republicans with valuable resources in several closely contested races.
Musk’s Spending Reaches Historic Levels
Federal campaign finance records show that Musk personally contributed approximately $74.8 million to America PAC between October 6 and October 14.
Another $1.98 million came through his company, United States of America Inc., pushing the combined amount close to $77 million.
America PAC reported spending approximately $42.7 million during the first two weeks of October while maintaining roughly $46.5 million in available cash as of October 14.
The organization has been supporting Republican candidates through advertising, voter outreach, and other campaign activities designed to influence competitive congressional elections.
Musk’s latest contributions follow hundreds of millions of dollars in earlier donations to Republican political organizations.
His financial involvement has grown substantially since the summer, despite previous indications that he might reduce his participation in political campaigns.
Republicans Focus On Critical Senate Races
One of the biggest beneficiaries of Musk’s political spending has been the Republican campaign in Texas, where Attorney General Ken Paxton is competing against Democrat James Talarico for a U.S. Senate seat.
America PAC has spent approximately $27.9 million opposing Talarico and another $4.8 million supporting Paxton, according to campaign finance records.
Musk previously contributed $158 million to the Senate Leadership Fund, a major Republican political organization. That group subsequently transferred an equivalent amount to a Texas-focused political committee supporting Paxton.
Other states receiving significant attention from America PAC include Ohio, Michigan, Iowa, and Maine.
These contests are especially important because Republicans are defending their congressional majorities at a time when Democrats are working to regain control of Washington.
The outcome could determine whether Trump has sufficient support in Congress to advance his legislative priorities during the remaining years of his presidency.
Trump’s Congressional Majority Faces Major Test
The November elections represent a significant challenge for the Republican Party.
Although Republicans currently control both chambers of Congress, competitive races across the country could shift the balance of power.
Democrats have focused much of their campaign messaging on economic concerns, the cost of living, and criticism of the Trump administration.
Republicans, meanwhile, are working to defend their record and emphasize their priorities on taxes, border security, government spending, and economic policy.
Musk’s financial support gives Republican-aligned organizations additional opportunities to communicate with voters during the campaign’s final days.
His America PAC also played an important role during the 2024 presidential election, when it supported Trump’s successful return to the White House.
The organization has continued investing in voter contact operations, including direct outreach and political advertising.
Democrats Raise Concerns Over Musk’s Influence
Musk’s enormous political contributions have also attracted criticism from Democratic candidates and organizations.
Opponents argue that wealthy individuals should not have such significant influence over congressional elections.
Some Democratic lawmakers have also expressed interest in examining Musk’s government contracts and his previous involvement with the Department of Government Efficiency if their party regains control of Congress.
Musk, who leads Tesla and SpaceX, has substantial business interests that intersect with federal government policy.
Supporters of political spending rights, however, maintain that individuals and organizations have a legitimate role in financing independent political advocacy under existing election laws.
Super PACs can accept unlimited contributions but are legally prohibited from coordinating their independent expenditures directly with candidate campaigns.
Election Day Will Determine Whether Spending Pays Off
Musk’s contributions have established him as one of the most financially influential figures in modern American politics.
His spending during the 2026 election cycle has already exceeded the approximately $288 million he contributed during the 2024 presidential election cycle.
For Republicans, the additional financial support comes at a crucial moment as campaigns intensify their advertising and voter outreach operations.
However, financial advantages do not guarantee victories, particularly in states and congressional districts where voters remain closely divided.
Both parties are now concentrating their resources on the handful of contests that could decide control of the House and Senate.
With November 3 approaching, Musk’s latest investment underscores the enormous stakes surrounding the midterm elections and the determination of Trump’s allies to preserve Republican control of Congress.
Whether that unprecedented financial commitment translates into enough Republican victories will ultimately be decided by voters.
