President Donald Trump’s White House is pushing back after journalist Aaron Rupar repeatedly drew attention to White House aide Natalie Harp during the president’s trip to Ireland.
The dispute escalated Saturday after Rupar posted a photograph of Harp accompanying Trump overseas and wrote, “Look who came to Ireland!” He also used the hashtag #TravelWithNatalie, which he has included in several recent posts involving the president and his aide.
The White House’s Rapid Response 47 account quickly fired back.
“President Trump does, in fact, travel with staff,” the account wrote before sharply criticizing Rupar and describing his repeated posts about Harp as inappropriate.
The confrontation comes after weeks of media attention surrounding Harp, a longtime Trump aide whose routine appearances alongside the president became a political talking point following comments from Democratic Sen. Jon Ossoff of Georgia.
White House Defends Trump Aide
Harp serves as an executive assistant and special assistant to the president and has frequently traveled with Trump as part of his staff.
Her role became the subject of increased political coverage after Ossoff mentioned her by name during a campaign speech while criticizing Trump’s priorities.
Ossoff argued that Trump was more focused on personal priorities than his presidential responsibilities, pointing to his ballroom project and travels with aide Natalie Harp.
The remark immediately generated controversy.
Some conservatives interpreted Ossoff’s wording as an attempt to suggest something improper about Trump’s relationship with Harp. Ossoff later denied making such an accusation and said his criticism concerned the advisers surrounding the president.
Regardless of his intent, the comment placed Harp at the center of a political story that quickly expanded across cable news and social media.
Rupar Keeps Spotlight On Harp
Rupar has continued posting photographs and commentary about Harp traveling with Trump, often using the same #TravelWithNatalie hashtag.
His latest post prompted the White House to argue that there is nothing unusual about a president traveling with members of his staff.
Rupar later responded by criticizing the White House account for mentioning his age while attacking him personally.

NewsBuster’s Tim Graham told Fox that he believed Rupar’s continued references to Harp were designed to play off the earlier controversy involving Ossoff.

Ossoff Explains His Comments
Ossoff was later questioned about his decision to specifically mention Harp during his speech.
Speaking with former Biden White House press secretary Jen Psaki, Ossoff denied suggesting that Trump and Harp were having an affair.
Instead, he said he had heard Harp described as a “security blanket” for Trump and argued that his larger point concerned the influence of the president’s advisers.
The White House strongly rejected Ossoff’s criticism and defended Harp’s work.
White House spokesperson Davis Ingle praised Harp as a highly dedicated and dependable member of President Trump’s staff.
The administration also accused Ossoff of attempting to create a political controversy around a staff member who was simply performing her job.
Cable News Coverage Surges
The story quickly spread beyond campaign speeches and social media.
According to a Fox News Digital analysis published in August, CNN and MS NOW mentioned Harp hundreds of times in the days following Ossoff’s remarks.
Fox reported that CNN alone mentioned her at least 132 times by Aug. 19.
That volume of coverage raised questions among Trump supporters and conservative media figures about why a White House aide’s presence alongside the president had become such a prominent national story.
Harp’s position does place her in close proximity to Trump. As an executive assistant, she routinely works around the president and travels with him as part of his staff.
That makes her visible, but visibility alone does not establish wrongdoing.

The controversy has now grown beyond the original comments about Harp.
