Should Trump Deliver More Tax Cuts To Americans?

Trump Envoy Talks Greenland Again

President Donald Trump’s long-discussed vision for Greenland is gaining serious momentum as U.S. special envoy Jeff Landry says America should dramatically expand its footprint on the strategically critical Arctic island.

Landry’s remarks underscore what many conservatives see as one of President Trump’s most forward-thinking national security initiatives: strengthening U.S. influence in a region rich in rare earth minerals, vital shipping lanes, and military advantages that could shape global power for decades.

Why Greenland Matters More Than Ever to the United States

President Trump has consistently argued that Greenland is essential to protecting America from rising threats posed by China and Russia.

The massive Arctic island lies along the shortest missile path between Russia and North America, making it one of the most important strategic locations in the world.

Greenland is also believed to contain enormous reserves of rare earth minerals used in smartphones, electric vehicles, advanced weapons systems, and other technologies crucial to America’s economic and military future.

As Arctic ice continues to recede, new shipping routes are opening that could dramatically reshape global trade and national defense.

U.S. Envoy Says America Must Return to Greenland

During his first official visit to Greenland since his December 2025 appointment, Landry told AFP that the United States needs to restore a stronger presence.

“I believe it is time for the United States to reestablish its footprint in Greenland,” Landry said.

He noted that President Trump is focused on expanding security operations and potentially reopening facilities that were abandoned after the Cold War.

“Greenland needs the United States,” Landry added.

America Once Operated 17 Bases in Greenland

At the height of the Cold War, the United States maintained 17 military installations across Greenland.

Today, only Pituffik Space Base remains active.

Recent reports indicate the Trump administration is evaluating the possibility of establishing three additional bases in southern Greenland.

Under a long-standing defense agreement with Denmark, the United States can expand its military infrastructure after notifying both Danish and Greenlandic authorities.

Trump’s Vision Includes Economic Independence for Greenland

Beyond national security, Landry emphasized President Trump’s desire to help Greenland achieve greater economic independence from Denmark.

In an interview with Greenland’s Sermitsiaq newspaper, Landry said the island possesses extraordinary untapped opportunities.

“I think there are incredible possibilities here that could move Greenlanders from dependency to independence,” he said.

President Trump, according to Landry, believes Greenland can build a stronger and more self-sufficient economy through responsible development and closer cooperation with the United States.

Greenland Leaders Hold Talks with U.S. Delegation

Landry arrived in Nuuk and met with Prime Minister Jens-Frederik Nielsen and Foreign Minister Mute Egede.

Nielsen described the discussions as constructive while noting that Greenland continues to maintain control over decisions regarding its future.

Both Greenland and Denmark have repeatedly stated that the island’s destiny will be determined by Greenlanders themselves.

Healthcare Visit Draws Political Criticism

Landry was accompanied by an American physician who said he was evaluating healthcare needs on the island.

The visit reignited debate after Denmark and Greenland declined President Trump’s previous proposal to send a U.S. naval hospital ship to provide medical assistance.

Health Minister Anna Wangenheim criticized the move, saying Greenland should not become part of a geopolitical experiment.

Trump’s Arctic Strategy Looks Increasingly Prescient

What many critics once dismissed as an unconventional idea now appears to be part of a broader strategy to secure America’s interests in one of the world’s most important emerging regions.

With abundant natural resources, expanding shipping lanes, and unmatched military significance, Greenland is becoming a focal point in the global competition for influence.

For supporters of President Trump, the renewed push in Greenland is further evidence that his America First agenda is focused not only on today’s challenges, but also on protecting the nation’s long-term security and prosperity.
