Obama Unveils New Show?

Former President Barack Obama is once again stepping into the Hollywood spotlight — this time alongside liberal comedian Larry David — in a new HBO Max comedy project that is already generating major reactions online.

The upcoming series, titled “Life, Larry and the Pursuit of Unhappiness,” was officially teased Thursday in a promotional video featuring both Obama and David trading jokes in classic awkward-comedy fashion.

The project is part of a growing trend of former political figures moving deeper into the entertainment industry after leaving office, something many conservatives have increasingly criticized as the continued blending of politics, celebrity culture, and media influence.

In the promotional clip, Obama joked that even dealing with difficult world leaders during his presidency did not prepare him for working with David.

“I’ve sat across from some of the toughest leaders in the world and handled some of the most difficult global issues imaginable,” Obama said jokingly. “But nothing prepared me for Larry David.”

Obama then added that he was thankful he only serves as a producer on the project and does not have to manage the comedian every day.

Moments later, David entered the scene and greeted Obama by calling him “44,” referencing his time as America’s 44th president.

The exchange quickly turned into a typical Larry David-style comedy bit when David asked Obama if he could list him as his emergency contact.

Obama appeared confused and asked why.

David joked that emergency responders would likely take things more seriously if they saw the former president’s name attached to his paperwork.

Obama fired back by teasing that David calls 911 over tiny medical concerns and declined the request.

David then responded that he would simply ask former first lady Michelle Obama instead.

“Good luck with that,” Obama replied.

The six-episode comedy series is scheduled to premiere June 26 on HBO Max. According to the announcement from Warner Bros. Discovery, several actors and guest stars connected to the hit HBO comedy Curb Your Enthusiasm are expected to appear throughout the show.

The partnership between Obama and David was first announced last year as part of a comedy project tied to America’s upcoming 250th anniversary celebration.

Since leaving the White House, Obama and Michelle Obama have continued expanding their media presence through documentaries, podcasts, streaming projects, and entertainment partnerships with major corporations.

Meanwhile, critics argue that today’s entertainment industry has become increasingly intertwined with Democratic political figures and left-leaning cultural messaging.

The Democratic Party’s official X account added fuel to the online conversation Thursday by posting photos of Obama and David together alongside the caption: “Two American icons.”

Supporters praised the pair’s chemistry and humor, while critics questioned whether major media companies continue giving prominent political figures special treatment in Hollywood.

Regardless of where viewers stand politically, the unusual partnership between a former president and one of television’s most recognizable comedians is certain to attract attention ahead of the show’s summer debut.
