Republican Calls Out Protestors
Minnesota State Senator Michael Holmstrom, a Republican representing Buffalo, sharply criticized recent protests in Minneapolis during a Friday appearance on Newsmax, arguing the demonstrations are politically manufactured rather than driven by genuine concern.
Speaking on Carl Higbie FRONTLINE, Holmstrom said the protests appear repetitive, featuring the same activists showing up for different causes with little substance behind them.
According to the senator, these demonstrations are less about addressing real social issues and more about radical political theater.
Holmstrom argued that Democratic activists are escalating protests because they are struggling to generate enthusiasm ahead of upcoming elections.
“They need something they can point to,” Holmstrom said, adding that protests are being used to stir anger and keep supporters mobilized.
The lawmaker also pointed to the extreme winter conditions in Minneapolis, noting that demonstrators were standing on vehicles despite subzero temperatures. He contrasted that with what he described as a passive law enforcement response nearby.
“This doesn’t look organic,” Holmstrom said. “It looks organized.”
Immigration, Border Security, and DHS Self-Deportation Program
Holmstrom also addressed immigration enforcement, encouraging individuals in the country illegally to consider a voluntary self-deportation option offered by the Department of Homeland Security, which includes a financial incentive of up to $2,600.
The senator emphasized that his duty is to represent lawful Minnesota residents and American citizens.
He said individuals who violated immigration laws should take responsibility, leave voluntarily, and pursue legal entry if they wish to return in the future.
“You made a mistake,” Holmstrom said. “There’s a lawful way to fix it.”
Cold Temperatures Expected to Quiet Demonstrations
With temperatures continuing to plunge below zero, Holmstrom predicted the protests would quickly fade once media attention disappears.
He suggested many demonstrators are unlikely to remain outside without cameras present, especially in dangerous winter conditions.
“When the spotlight’s gone, they’re gone,” Holmstrom said.
