Trump Takes Christmas Calls
President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump embraced the holiday spirit this week by taking part in one of America’s most cherished Christmas traditions—speaking with children from across the country as they eagerly awaited the arrival of Santa Claus.
From the president’s Mar-a-Lago residence in Palm Beach, Florida, the first couple joined the annual NORAD Santa Tracker hotline, a decades-old program that allows families to follow Santa’s journey around the world on Christmas Eve. The tradition has long been a favorite among parents and grandparents alike, offering children a moment of excitement while celebrating the magic of the season.
Throughout the calls, President Trump exchanged cheerful conversation with young callers, asking about their Christmas wishes and sharing lighthearted humor. When one child from North Carolina asked whether Santa might be upset if no cookies were left out, the president responded with a smile.
“I don’t think he would be angry,” Trump said. “But he might be a little disappointed. Santa is a bit cherubic—on the heavier side—and I think he would enjoy some cookies.”
Another child, calling from Kansas, joked that they hoped Santa would not bring coal for Christmas.
“Well, not coal,” Trump replied with a laugh. “Clean, beautiful coal—I had to say it.” He quickly added, “But what would you really like Santa to bring you?”
The president also praised a child from Washington state who said they wanted a Kindle, telling them they must be “a very high-IQ person.” Speaking with two children from Oklahoma, Trump shared his affection for their state and reflected warmly on its strong support during the last election.
“Santa loves Oklahoma, and so do I,” Trump said. “Oklahoma was very good to me. I love Oklahoma. Don’t ever leave.”
First Lady Melania Trump also spent time speaking with the children, gently asking about their families, siblings, and how they planned to celebrate Christmas. Her calm and caring presence added to the festive atmosphere of the calls.
Afterward, President Trump told reporters he could easily continue taking calls from children all day but noted that he still had important responsibilities involving international matters and national leadership.
“This is fun,” he said between calls. “This is America.”
The annual NORAD Santa Tracker event continues to highlight the lighter, more personal side of the presidency, reminding Americans of the importance of family, tradition, and togetherness during the Christmas season.
