Music Star Makes GOP Appearance
Rapper Nicki Minaj surprised attendees this weekend with an unannounced appearance at Turning Point USA’s annual AmericaFest, where she delivered pointed remarks praising President Donald Trump and sharply criticizing California Governor Gavin Newsom.
Minaj joined Turning Point USA contributor Erika Kirk on stage for a wide-ranging conversation that quickly turned to national politics, cultural issues, and leadership in America.
During the discussion, Minaj took aim at Newsom’s support for transgender-related medical policies involving minors — an issue that has sparked growing concern among parents and voters nationwide. She also dismissed speculation about a possible presidential run by the California governor.
In a moment that drew laughter and applause, Minaj suggested Newsom might find greater happiness stepping away from politics altogether, joking that he should “get on the nearest Jet Ski” and enjoy the moment rather than pursue a campaign she predicted would fail.
At one point, Kirk invited Minaj to address the governor directly.
Minaj responded by using a nickname popularized by President Trump, referring to the governor as “Newscum.” She warned that Americans are paying attention and that political leaders should not underestimate public accountability.
“We don’t have a problem cleaning up the scum if we have to,” Minaj said, before advising the governor to “tread lightly.”
Minaj’s remarks reflect a noticeable shift in her public commentary. In recent months, she has become increasingly vocal in her support for President Trump, particularly on issues involving national security and religious freedom.
Earlier this fall, Trump announced that the United States would classify Nigeria as a “country of particular concern” due to ongoing violence against Christian communities by Islamist extremists. The designation places diplomatic pressure on foreign governments that fail to protect religious minorities.
Minaj publicly praised the decision on social media, thanking the president and his administration for taking the issue seriously.
Her criticism of Governor Newsom has also continued online. In recent weeks, Minaj has posted multiple messages aimed at the California leader, including comments mocking his political image and leadership record.
During the AmericaFest interview, Kirk asked Minaj what had most surprised her about the current administration.
Minaj responded with strong praise for President Trump, saying she holds “the utmost respect and admiration” for him. She credited the president with restoring confidence among Americans who believe it is still possible to stand up to corruption, defend national values, and win without abandoning integrity.
“He’s given people hope that you can beat the bad guys, win, and still hold your head high,” Minaj said, noting that both she and the president share roots in Queens, New York.
The moment marked one of the most talked-about surprises of the conference — and underscored how figures outside traditional politics are increasingly shaping conversations within the conservative movement.
