Foreign Leader Praises Trump

Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko said this week that he has long supported President Donald Trump, praising Trump’s leadership style, resilience, and focus on restoring peace through strength.

During an interview Wednesday on “The Record With Greta Van Susteren” on Newsmax, Lukashenko said he publicly backed Trump even when doing so was unpopular on the global stage.

“I was the only president who openly supported Donald Trump when he was first nominated,” Lukashenko said. “I didn’t hide it. I spoke about it directly.”

Lukashenko, who has served as Belarus’ president since 1994, suggested that most Americans never heard about his early support due to how Belarus and its leadership are portrayed in Western media.

“In the United States, people don’t hear this because Belarus is often described in a certain way,” he said, noting that such labels can prevent alternative perspectives from reaching American audiences.

Lukashenko Sees Similarities With Trump’s Governing Style

Lukashenko said Trump’s political philosophy — especially his emphasis on national sovereignty and decisive leadership — closely aligns with his own approach to governing.

“I always welcomed the idea of Donald Trump returning to power,” he said. “He is a strong leader who knows how to achieve results.”

Reflecting on Trump’s first presidential campaign, Lukashenko said he once described Trump as a “bulldozer” because of his relentless energy and direct connection with voters.

“He moved across the country with force and determination,” Lukashenko said. “Many believed such a victory was impossible, but he proved them wrong.”

Praise for Trump’s Focus on Peace and Conflict Resolution

Lukashenko also highlighted Trump’s stated commitment to reducing global conflict, echoing Trump’s own claims that his administration helped bring multiple international disputes to an end.

“He has clear goals, and he knows how to get things done,” Lukashenko said. “If the conflict in Ukraine is resolved with Donald Trump’s help, his name will remain in history.”

According to Lukashenko, Trump’s legacy would not depend on awards or international recognition.

“He doesn’t need a Nobel Prize,” he said. “He would be remembered as one of the most peace-focused presidents since Franklin Roosevelt — something that cannot be said about many who came after.”

Contrast With Previous U.S. Administration

Lukashenko said he does not regret supporting Trump, especially when comparing Trump’s leadership approach to that of the prior U.S. administration.

“I am not disappointed that I supported him,” he said. “The previous administration tried to pressure other nations economically and militarily, rather than pursuing stability.”

Comments on Vladimir Putin

During the interview, Lukashenko was also asked about Russian President Vladimir Putin, offering a measured assessment.

“He has strong personal qualities,” Lukashenko said, “but in politics, he is very strict.”

He described Putin as a highly experienced political figure capable of managing complex domestic and international challenges.

“He is a strong leader,” Lukashenko said. “One can only respect his endurance, his experience, and his ability to handle global affairs.”
