Trump Highlights US Steel
President Donald Trump electrified supporters in Pennsylvania Tuesday night with a powerful message: American steel is staying in America — and booming again — thanks to his leadership and pro-worker trade policies.
At a packed rally in Mount Pocono, Trump highlighted what he called one of the biggest economic wins of his second administration: keeping U.S. Steel rooted in the United States and securing billions in new investment after approving its $15 billion sale to Japan’s Nippon Steel last summer.
⭐ Trump: “We Saved U.S. Steel — And It’s Never Leaving America”
Trump told the crowd that U.S. Steel is stronger than it has been in decades.
“We saved U.S. Steel,” Trump said. “The company is red-hot. It’s staying here. It’s never moving. The steel stays in America.”
He mocked critics who claimed the company could be “moved to Japan,” noting:
“You can move a headquarters. You can’t move an entire steel mill.”
The crowd erupted — especially in Pennsylvania, where steel jobs have long been the backbone of local communities.
⭐ Massive New Investments in U.S. Steel — Despite Biden’s Early Opposition
Under the finalized agreement, U.S. Steel keeps its American name and Pittsburgh headquarters. Nippon Steel has committed to:
- $14 billion in new U.S. investments
- Up to $4 billion for a brand-new American steel mill
- Honoring United Steelworkers labor agreements
- Protecting American jobs
The Biden administration initially tried to block the deal — but now the investment is moving forward at full speed.
Trump emphasized that the results speak for themselves:
“They’re spending billions and billions. More plants. More jobs. More steel. It’s bigger than anyone predicted.”
⭐ Steel Plants Reopening After Years of Shutdowns
Just days before Trump’s rally, U.S. Steel confirmed it will:
- Restart steel slab production at its Granite City Works plant in Illinois
- Reopen the blast furnace idled two years ago
- Reverse earlier plans to close its processing mill
These facilities were shut down in 2023 under Biden, costing communities jobs and tax revenue. Now, production is coming back.
This is a major economic win for workers across the Midwest.
⭐ Tariffs Bring Steel Jobs Back to Pennsylvania
Trump credited his successful tariffs strategy for reviving American steel.
“The tariffs filled it up,” he said. “Companies are coming here because they don’t want to pay 100%, 50%, 25% tariffs.”
A surge of steel manufacturers is now investing in Pennsylvania to avoid the heavy import costs from Trump’s America-First trade policies.
