Trump Team Deals Another Blow To Illegals
Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent announced Friday that President Donald Trump has directed the U.S. Treasury Department to stop federal tax benefits from flowing to illegal immigrants — a move aimed at protecting taxpayer dollars and restoring fairness for American citizens.
According to Bessent, the Treasury will issue new regulations making it clear that individuals living in the country illegally, along with other non-qualified recipients, will no longer be eligible for the refundable portions of major federal tax credits. These include the:
- Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC)
- Additional Child Tax Credit (ACTC)
- American Opportunity Tax Credit (AOTC)
- Saver’s Match Credit
Bessent emphasized on X that this action fulfills President Trump’s commitment to “put American families first” by ensuring that federal benefits are reserved for U.S. citizens and legal residents who play by the rules.
The policy shift is being praised by many conservative voters who have long argued that generous tax credits have too often been exploited by illegal immigrants, placing an unfair burden on law-abiding Americans and retirees living on fixed incomes.
With the new regulations, the Trump administration is signaling a renewed focus on border security, fiscal responsibility, and protecting benefits for American workers, parents, and seniors.
