Trump Flips On Biden’s Agenda

The Trump administration has officially reopened millions of acres in Alaska’s Arctic region for oil and gas drilling, delivering a major boost to American energy independence and reversing one of President Biden’s most sweeping restrictions on domestic production.

On Thursday, the administration announced a final rule that rescinds Biden’s 2024 ban on new energy development across 13 million acres within the National Petroleum Reserve–Alaska (NPR-A). The formal notice is set to be published in the Federal Register on Friday.

A Return to American Energy Strength

The National Petroleum Reserve—created in 1923 as a strategic fuel supply for U.S. national security—covers an enormous 23 million acres. For decades, the area has been at the center of a fierce political fight between Democrats pushing environmental limits and Republicans supporting American-made energy.

Biden’s 2024 rule was celebrated by environmental groups but strongly opposed by Alaskans who warned it would cost jobs, weaken local communities, and increase America’s dependence on foreign oil.

The Trump administration says the reversal puts the country back on the right track.

Trump Prioritizes American Jobs and Energy Security

“By rescinding the 2024 rule, we are carrying out President Trump’s directive to unlock Alaska’s energy potential, create new jobs across the North Slope, and strengthen American energy security,” Interior Secretary Doug Burgum said in a statement.

The administration says reopening the region will:

  • Support thousands of direct and indirect jobs
  • Lower U.S. reliance on foreign energy
  • Provide economic stability for Alaska’s rural communities
  • Boost domestic production at a time of rising global uncertainty

Thursday’s announcement finalizes a proposal that had been in motion earlier this year, clearing the way for new investment and renewed momentum in the Arctic energy sector.

A Major Win for U.S. Energy Independence

Supporters of the administration say this step represents a decisive victory for American workers, national security, and the long-term goal of restoring U.S. energy independence—a key priority under President Trump.
