Republican Makes Scary Prediction
Washington, D.C. — The nation’s longest government shutdown in modern history is showing no signs of ending soon, and Rep. Tim Burchett (R-TN) says Americans should brace for more gridlock as Democrats refuse to compromise.
Appearing on The Hill on NewsNation, Burchett warned that the shutdown could stretch well beyond Thanksgiving unless Democrats finally break ranks and put Americans ahead of party politics.
“I think it’s going to go on after Thanksgiving,” Burchett said. “The pain will continue until a few Democrats stop playing politics and admit this shutdown is about their failed health care agenda.”
Burchett: Democrats Protecting Big Insurance, Not Patients
Burchett accused Democrats of prioritizing their donors over the American people, arguing that their real loyalty lies with the big insurance companies profiting from ObamaCare.
“It’s not the doctors or the patients getting rich — it’s the insurance executives bankrolling the Democrats,” he said. “This isn’t about helping people; it’s about power, control, and arrogance. That’s Washington to a T, and it’s why things need to change.”
The Tennessee Republican said the GOP has already “staked its ground” by passing a clean continuing resolution to reopen the government. But if Democrats want to negotiate about extending health care subsidies that expire at year’s end, Burchett said there’s a simple solution:
“What’s wrong with President Trump’s idea of reopening the government first?”
Graham: ObamaCare Is Fueling Inflation
Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) backed that stance, blasting Democrats for using the shutdown to protect a broken system that’s enriching the health care industry at taxpayer expense.
“The five largest health care companies in America have seen their stock prices soar 1,000 percent since 2010,” Graham said. “We’re flooding these companies with billions in taxpayer money. It’s fueling inflation and bankrupting working families.”
Graham said the Republican Party is done writing blank checks to corporations while Americans suffer under rising costs.
Thune: Democrats’ Offer a ‘Nonstarter’ Without Hyde Protections
Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-SD) dismissed the Democrats’ latest “minibus” offer — a short-term spending patch that included a one-year extension of ACA subsidies and tax credits — calling it a “nonstarter.”
“A one-year extension like what they’re suggesting doesn’t even come close,” Thune said. “And it lacks Hyde Amendment protections that prevent taxpayer-funded abortions. That’s unacceptable.”
Republicans: Reopen Government, Then Negotiate
Republicans say they’re ready to reopen the government immediately — but only if Democrats stop using the shutdown as leverage to protect the failed ObamaCare system and their corporate donors.
For now, Burchett said, the path forward depends on whether Democrats put the country before politics.
“If they cared about real people instead of political power, this shutdown would be over tomorrow,” he said.
