Trump has put the ball in the Democrats’ court.
President Donald Trump made headlines Tuesday after announcing that food stamp payments will be delayed until Democrats agree to reopen the government, placing the blame squarely on what he called the “Radical Left” for holding the nation hostage.
In a fiery Truth Social post, Trump blasted Democrats for turning America’s welfare system into a “giveaway program” during Joe Biden’s failed presidency.
“SNAP BENEFITS, which ballooned by billions under Crooked Joe Biden — because they were handed out to anyone who asked, instead of those truly in need — will only be given when Radical Left Democrats open up the government, which they can easily do, and not before!” Trump wrote.
Trump Takes Aim at Biden’s Wasteful Spending
The former president’s decision comes as multiple states face a shortfall in Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) funds following the ongoing government shutdown.
A federal judge recently ordered the administration to keep benefits flowing using emergency reserves. But the White House says that tapping those funds would put national preparedness at risk.
“That fund is meant for war, disaster, and true emergencies — not political games created by the Left,” one senior official said.
White House Press Secretary Confirms: Payments Will Be Delayed
Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt confirmed during Tuesday’s briefing that the administration will comply with the judge’s order — but warned that benefits will be delayed and reduced.
“The recipients of these benefits need to understand — it’s going to take time. Democrats have forced us into this untenable position,” Leavitt said. “The president refuses to drain our emergency fund just to cover reckless overspending from the previous administration.”
The Department of Agriculture issued new guidance to states to begin the recalculation process, but officials say the process could take weeks.
States Scramble as Democrats Stall
Across the country, governors are bracing for impact. Some red states are using emergency food programs, while others are warning residents to prepare for delays or interruptions in food stamp benefits starting in November.
Nationwide, more than 41 million Americans — about 12 percent of the population — depend on SNAP. States with the highest participation rates remain largely Democrat-controlled, where inflation and dependency have soared since Biden took office.
Conservatives Praise Trump’s Tough Stance
Supporters say President Trump’s firm position is long overdue. By refusing to use emergency war funds for welfare payments, Trump is drawing a hard line on fiscal sanity — and putting the responsibility where it belongs: on Democrats who refuse to compromise.
“Trump is doing what Biden never did — protecting taxpayers, restoring accountability, and putting America first,” one conservative commentator noted.
The Bottom Line
President Trump’s message is clear:
👉 No more blank checks for welfare expansion.
👉 No more political games with taxpayers’ money.
👉 It’s time for Democrats to reopen the government and start serving the American people — not their own power.
