Fetterman Calls Out Democrat Party
After 33 days of chaos in Washington, even Democrats are starting to admit the truth — their own party caused the government shutdown.
Sen. John Fetterman (D-Pa.), known for his blunt talk, broke ranks with party leaders on CNN’s State of the Union Sunday, saying what few Democrats dare to say publicly.
“Democrats really need to own the shutdown,” Fetterman said. “We’re the ones shutting it down.”
Fetterman acknowledged that the left’s strategy has backfired. “It was wrong when Republicans did it,” he added. “It’s wrong now. Reopen this thing, and let’s find a way forward — that’s how democracy works.”
💰 Democrats Refuse to Reopen Government as Americans Struggle
While millions of Americans face uncertainty, Democrats continue to block every effort to reopen the government.
President Donald Trump, House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.), and Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-S.D.) have all urged Democrats to support a continuing resolution to keep the lights on — at existing Biden-era spending levels — while serious negotiations move forward.
But Fetterman didn’t sugarcoat what’s happening.
“This is an absolute fail,” he admitted. “It’s embarrassing if we can’t even keep the lights on. Federal workers have had to borrow hundreds of millions just to pay their bills.”
🏛 Fetterman Breaks With Party — Votes With GOP to Fund Government
Fetterman is now among the few Democrats siding with Republicans to end the shutdown. He said he can’t justify leaving 42 million Americans at risk of losing food assistance.
“These are the people we’re supposed to fight for,” Fetterman said. “Now we’re hurting them — that’s not who we are.”
With SNAP benefits, WIC, and Head Start programs hanging in the balance, Fetterman is calling on his own party to stop playing political games and put American families first.
⚠️ Fetterman Warns: “Socialism Is Not the Future of My Party”
Fetterman also delivered a warning to his party’s far-left base. Pointing to the rise of self-proclaimed socialists like New York’s Zohran Mamdani, he said Americans should take note.
“Socialism is not the future of my party,” he said. “Ask anyone who’s lived under those systems — we all know how that works out.”
Even as he calls himself a “committed Democrat,” Fetterman insists he won’t stay silent when his party hurts working Americans or pushes radical socialist ideas that destroy freedom and prosperity.
“Keeping the government closed helps no one. We’re getting nothing for the people we say we represent,” he said.
🇺🇸 The Bottom Line
Fetterman’s rare honesty has shaken up Washington. Even as Trump and Republican leaders push to reopen the government, Democrats remain divided — and everyday Americans continue to pay the price.
With grocery prices rising, SNAP funds frozen, and federal workers forced to borrow money, voters are seeing firsthand what happens when the Left puts politics ahead of people.
