Top CEO Rejects Trump’s Plan

Salesforce CEO Marc Benioff is walking back his comments after suggesting President Donald Trump should deploy the National Guard to restore order in crime-ridden San Francisco — a city long plagued by failed liberal leadership.

In a post Friday on X (formerly Twitter), the billionaire tech executive reversed course, writing:

“After listening to my fellow San Franciscans and city officials — and following the largest, safest Dreamforce in our history — I no longer believe the National Guard is necessary to ensure safety in San Francisco.”

Just days earlier, Benioff told The New York Times he supported Trump’s idea of sending in the Guard to help clean up the streets before his company’s annual Dreamforce conference. His comments set off an uproar among progressive allies — many of whom have long resisted efforts to crack down on homelessness, open drug use, and rising crime in the once-iconic city.

The backlash was swift. Venture capitalist Ron Conway, one of Silicon Valley’s biggest Democrat donors, resigned from the board of Salesforce’s charitable arm, saying he was “shocked and disappointed” by Benioff’s remarks and claimed he “barely recognized” the man he once admired.

Facing pressure from San Francisco’s left-wing establishment, Benioff quickly apologized, saying his earlier remarks came “from an abundance of caution.”

“I sincerely apologize for the concern they caused,” he said, adding that “our city succeeds when we all work together.”

For years, Benioff has been a major supporter of liberal causes — even backing Hillary Clinton in 2016. His brief flirtation with Trump-style law-and-order policies, followed by a rapid retreat under elite pressure, shows just how deeply divided the corporate world remains.

While ordinary San Franciscans continue to deal with crime, homelessness, and open drug markets, the city’s political class seems more interested in policing speech than fixing the streets.
