GOP Praises Trump For Defending Troops
Rep. James Comer (R-Ky.) is praising President Donald Trump’s strong leadership and unwavering commitment to America’s troops — saying Trump once again proved he’s a president who acts while Democrats play politics.
During an appearance on Newsmax’s “Carl Higbie FRONTLINE,” Comer explained that the Trump administration — led by budget chief Russell Vought — found a way to pay U.S. service members on time, even as Democrats refuse to fund the government.
“They’re finding savings in other areas,” Comer said. “President Trump is showing real leadership. His team is stepping up where Democrats have failed.”
Comer, who chairs the House Oversight Committee, said Trump’s move shows a White House that cares deeply about America’s heroes while Democrats in Congress continue to play partisan games.
Democrats Refuse to Govern — Hoping to Hurt Trump Instead
Comer accused Democrats of deliberately prolonging the shutdown for political gain.
“If Congress has one basic duty, it’s to fund the government,” Comer said. “Democrats could do it, but they won’t. Their only goal is to hurt Donald Trump.”
He called it another case of Trump Derangement Syndrome, noting Democrats supported government funding bills under previous presidents but are now blocking them out of spite.
“They think Americans will blame Republicans,” Comer added, “but voters see through it. They know who’s putting politics before the people.”
Turning the Shutdown Into an Opportunity to Cut Washington Waste
Comer also said the president could use this moment to trim the bloated federal bureaucracy and make government leaner and more efficient.
“There are too many jobs in Washington that made sense 40 years ago but serve no purpose now,” Comer said. “This is an opportunity to cut waste and make government accountable again.”
He applauded Trump for prioritizing military pay — calling it the “number one duty” during a shutdown.
“Our troops should never suffer because of partisan politics,” Comer said. “President Trump did the right thing — and that’s what real leadership looks like.”
