Should Trump Build A Jesus Statue In Washington DC?

Critics Attack Trump’s New Proclamation

WASHINGTON, D.C. — President Donald Trump has once again put America first by officially restoring Columbus Day, a beloved tradition honoring Italian-American heritage and the spirit of discovery that helped shape the Western world.

While millions of Americans applauded the move, the political left is melting down — accusing Trump of “glossing over history” and “ignoring Indigenous Peoples Day.” But supporters say this is yet another example of Trump defending American pride against cancel culture.

Trump signed the Columbus Day proclamation on Thursday to loud applause — even from members of the press.

“That was — I’ve never seen that happen before. The press actually broke out in applause,” Trump said, smiling. “Good. Columbus Day, we’re back. Italians — we love the Italians.”

In a message shared on Truth Social, Trump declared:

“I’m reviving Columbus Day from the ruins. Democrats tried everything they could to tear down Christopher Columbus, smear his legacy, and insult the millions of proud Italian-Americans who honor him.”

Standing Up to the Left’s War on History

Trump made it clear earlier this year that he won’t follow Joe Biden’s lead in celebrating Indigenous Peoples Day alongside Columbus Day — a change many conservatives saw as a deliberate attempt to erase American heritage.

Under Trump, the holiday is once again focused on the courage, faith, and determination that built the modern world — values that the left too often mocks or dismisses.

Democrat Joe Biden first introduced the dual observance in 2021, prompting backlash from Italian-American groups and community leaders who accused Democrats of rewriting history for political gain.

Left-Wing Critics Lash Out

As expected, liberal activists and college professors wasted no time attacking Trump’s decision.

Kerri Malloy, a professor at San José State University, told NPR that Columbus’ arrival “triggered a mass genocide,” blaming Europeans for disease and cultural change — a common talking point among progressive academics.

Matthew Fletcher, director of the Indigenous Law and Policy Center at Michigan State University, went further, claiming Trump’s proclamation was designed to “troll minorities.”

But many conservatives see these comments as proof that the left has lost touch with ordinary Americans who simply want to honor their ancestors and their country’s achievements.

“America’s History Deserves Respect”

Trump’s allies say the move is about much more than a holiday — it’s about defending national pride and faith in America itself.

Across the nation, supporters are celebrating the return of a holiday that honors courage, exploration, and perseverance — the very traits that built the United States.

“President Trump stands up for our history, our faith, and our families,” one supporter posted online. “That’s why America loves him.”

As Trump put it, “Columbus Day is back — proudly and unapologetically.”
