Red State In Wildfire Danger
As wildfire danger intensifies and flood risks rise across the Lone Star State, Governor Greg Abbott is stepping up to protect Texans. On Friday, the governor activated additional emergency response resources and expanded the state’s wildfire disaster declaration to include 179 counties.
“Wildfire conditions and flood threats continue to endanger communities across Texas,” Abbott said. “That’s why I’ve directed the Texas Division of Emergency Management to deploy every available resource to keep Texans safe.”
Abbott reaffirmed that Texas will remain vigilant and fully prepared to face any natural disaster head-on.
🔥 Wildfire Danger on the Rise
The Texas A&M Forest Service reports that a mix of dry brush, gusty winds, and unusually warm weather has led to dangerous wildfire conditions, particularly across East Texas.
The agency has increased the Wildland Fire Preparedness Level to Level 3, indicating a heightened wildfire risk across the state. Officials are warning Texans to refrain from outdoor burning, using fireworks, or engaging in any spark-producing activities.
To stay ahead of the danger, more than 350 firefighters and emergency responders from across Texas and neighboring states are now on standby. Over 125 pieces of heavy equipment, including bulldozers, fire engines, and motor graders, have been positioned for rapid deployment.
🌧️ Flood Threat Builds in West Texas
Meanwhile, the National Weather Service has issued warnings for potential flash flooding in parts of West Texas. Heavy rains are expected as tropical moisture moves north from the eastern Pacific through Mexico.
Swiftwater rescue teams, equipped with boats and high-water vehicles, are being deployed to assist in any flood rescue operations that may arise.
Abbott’s office is urging residents to stay informed, monitor local forecasts, and follow official instructions to ensure their safety.
🧭 Texans Encouraged to Prepare Now
Governor Abbott reminded Texans that personal preparedness saves lives. Families should have an emergency plan, a fully stocked supply kit, and a reliable communication plan in case of evacuation.
“Texas stands ready,” Abbott said. “We’ve faced natural disasters before, and we’ll do it again—stronger and more united than ever.”
