Is Trump Turning US Cities Into War Zones?

Democrats Reject Ending Shutdown

The U.S. Senate on Friday once again failed to break the funding deadlock, ensuring the partial government shutdown drags into another weekend. Democrats blocked the Republican plan for the fourth time in two weeks, prolonging what many conservatives are now calling the Schumer Shutdown.

The latest vote came in at 54–44, falling short of the 60 votes needed to advance. Several Democrats — including Catherine Cortez Masto (Nev.), John Fetterman (Pa.), and Independent Angus King (Maine) — sided with Republicans. Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) stood alone in opposing the GOP bill.

Moments later, the White House blasted Democrats on X (formerly Twitter):
“Democrats just voted to keep the government shutdown so they can push free health care for illegal aliens. SHAME ON THEM.”

Republicans Refuse to Cave on Illegal Immigration Giveaways

Senate Republican Leader John Thune (R-S.D.) warned Democrats before the vote that if they once again rejected the GOP’s plan, senators would be sent home for the weekend. He made clear Republicans will not cave to demands to tie spending to Medicaid benefits for illegal immigrants.

That means the next chance for another vote won’t come until Monday.

Meanwhile, Senate Democrat leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) tried to flip the blame, accusing Republicans of “political games.” But Schumer admitted his caucus is standing firm, saying: “They thought they could threaten us into submission. It’s not working.”

Democrats Push Benefits for Migrants — GOP Pushes Back

This stalemate comes just days after Democrats tried and failed to pass their own spending proposal. That bill would have restored Medicaid payments to illegal immigrants — a plan Republicans blasted as a backdoor attempt to expand taxpayer-funded benefits to migrants.

“This is still a Schumer Shutdown,” Sen. Mike Rounds (R-S.D.) told Newsmax. “Even Democrats admit they don’t know why they’re dragging this out. Republicans want to return to regular order — pass defense funding, pass appropriations, and give every member a say. Democrats are blocking it.”

The Bottom Line for Americans

The fight over the government shutdown is clear:

  • Republicans are pushing for fiscal sanity, border security, and accountability.
  • Democrats are blocking solutions and demanding taxpayer-funded benefits for illegal immigrants.

Until Democrats give up their radical demands, Americans are stuck with the Schumer Shutdown.
