Trump Targets Iran Again
The Trump administration has delivered another powerful blow to Iran, officially reimposing sweeping sanctions and driving the final nail into the coffin of Barack Obama’s failed nuclear deal.
On Wednesday, Secretary of State and National Security Adviser Marco Rubio announced new penalties against dozens of Iranian individuals, companies, and networks tied to nuclear development, weapons smuggling, and military aircraft projects. The U.S. is also adding strict export restrictions on 26 entities and three addresses connected to Iran’s global procurement operations.
“The United States is enforcing the snapback of U.N. sanctions on Iran due to its blatant failure to honor nuclear commitments,” Rubio declared. “Iran continues to pursue dangerous technologies to expand its proliferation programs.”
Europe Forced to Follow Trump’s Lead
France, Germany, and the United Kingdom—after years of dragging their feet—were finally compelled to invoke the “snapback” mechanism under the 2015 Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA). These European powers had until October to act, but waited until the very last moment to reimpose sanctions, admitting the deal was beyond saving.
Trump’s Maximum Pressure Campaign Pays Off
President Trump withdrew the U.S. from Obama’s disastrous nuclear deal back in 2019, warning it put Iran on the fast track to nuclear weapons. Since then, his tough sanctions and decisive support for Israeli strikes on Iran’s nuclear facilities have crippled Tehran’s ambitions.
While Iran clung to the JCPOA until 2020, hoping Europe would shield them, Trump’s leadership made it clear: America will no longer appease the world’s largest state sponsor of terrorism.
White House peace envoy Steve Witkoff confirmed last week that the administration remains open to talks, but on America’s terms—not Iran’s.
Europe Still Talking, But Trump Holds the Cards
Despite finally restoring sanctions, European leaders still talk about “diplomacy” with Iran. In a joint statement, they urged Tehran to “avoid escalation” and return to compliance. But the reality is simple: President Trump has shifted the balance of power, putting America and Israel back in control and isolating Iran more than ever before.
What This Means for America
For everyday Americans, this move sends a clear message: under President Trump, national security comes first. Obama’s legacy of weakness is over, and Iran is once again on the defensive.
