Democrats snooze as the GOP holds this country together.
House Republicans, working closely with President Donald Trump, have unveiled a bold plan to stop a government shutdown just days before the deadline — while also dramatically increasing security funding to protect lawmakers in the wake of Charlie Kirk’s shocking assassination.
This decisive action proves, once again, that Republicans are delivering results, while Democrats play politics and put the safety of public officials — and the stability of our nation — at risk.
Keeping the Government Open
The GOP plan, called a Continuing Resolution (CR), extends current government funding levels through November 21, preventing the chaos of a shutdown while giving lawmakers time to negotiate a longer-term deal.
House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) announced that the House will vote on the measure Friday, with the Senate expected to act immediately after.
President Trump must sign the bill by October 1, the start of the 2026 fiscal year, to officially avert a shutdown.
This move provides stability for seniors, veterans, and working families, ensuring that essential services continue without interruption.
$30 Million Boost for Lawmaker Security
In direct response to recent violence, including the assassination of Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk, the proposal includes $30 million in new funding to protect members of Congress.
House Administration Committee Chair Bryan Steil (R-WI) said the funds will be used to reimburse local law enforcement for helping protect lawmakers in their home districts.
“This is about protecting those who serve the American people,” Steil said. “After the tragedy involving Charlie Kirk, this funding is not optional — it’s essential.”
The bill also adds $58 million requested by the Trump administration to protect the judicial and executive branches, as well as $1 billion in federal funding for Washington, D.C.’s annual operations.
Long-Term Security Solutions in the Works
Rep. Scott Fitzgerald (R-WI) explained that while this package addresses immediate threats, lawmakers are already planning long-term safety solutions for the 2026 budget.
“Providing 24/7 protection for all 435 members of Congress would cost billions,” Fitzgerald said. “This is about finding smart, targeted solutions that keep lawmakers safe without wasting taxpayer dollars.”
Fitzgerald also warned that the recent murder of a Minnesota Democrat and the assassination of Charlie Kirk have made security a top priority like never before.
Democrats Threaten to Block the Plan
While Republicans focus on keeping the government open and protecting public servants, Democratic leaders are threatening to derail the bill simply because they were left out of the negotiations.
Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) accused Speaker Johnson and House Republicans of being “partisan,” even though this bill funds the government and keeps Americans safe.
Speaker Johnson pushed back, accusing Democrats of playing political games at a dangerous time.
“Some Democrats are openly hoping for a government shutdown because they think it will help them politically,” Johnson said. “That is reckless and puts the American people at risk.”
With Republicans holding only a two-seat majority, Johnson must keep his conference united to overcome Democrat obstruction.
Why This Matters for You
This plan isn’t just about politics — it’s about protecting the country.
A government shutdown would disrupt services millions of Americans depend on, from Social Security and Medicare to veterans’ benefits.
At the same time, political violence is on the rise. The assassination of Charlie Kirk, following the murder of a Minnesota lawmaker, is a grim reminder of what’s at stake.
Speaker Johnson said the tragedy has forced tough but necessary conversations about lowering political tensions and protecting public officials.
“We must turn down the temperature and stop the violent rhetoric in our nation,” Johnson said.
Bottom Line
Once again, President Trump and House Republicans are stepping up to lead — protecting Americans, preventing chaos, and standing strong against rising threats.
Democrats, meanwhile, are playing games and threatening to shut down the government for political gain.
This moment shows the clear contrast between Republican leadership and Democrat dysfunction.
The GOP is fighting for you, your family, and the future of our nation.
