Top Democrat Exposes Schumer

Former West Virginia Senator Joe Manchin (I) is calling out Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) for what he describes as a shameless political stunt — accusing him of putting power over principle and trying to appease the radical left.

Manchin’s upcoming book, Dead Center: In Defense of Common Sense, set for release Tuesday, offers a behind-the-scenes look at Washington power plays and exposes how Democrats nearly blew up the Senate’s most sacred rule — the filibuster — to grab more control.

“Schumer wasn’t interested in real debate or working together,” Manchin writes.
“He wanted a spectacle. A made-for-TV moment to show the far left he was willing to burn down the Senate to push their radical agenda. This wasn’t about governing. It was about raw power.”

The Filibuster Battle That Shook Washington

In January 2022, Schumer, then the Senate Majority Leader, tried to abolish the filibuster, a rule dating back to 1837 designed to protect debate and prevent one-party rule.

With Joe Biden’s full backing, Schumer aimed to ram through a sweeping Democrat-backed voting bill that conservatives warned would tilt future elections permanently in Democrats’ favor.

But his plan backfired. The move failed in a 52-48 vote, with every Republican senator — joined by Manchin and Arizona’s Kyrsten Sinema (I) — voting to protect the filibuster and stop the power grab.

Why the Filibuster Matters

The filibuster requires 60 votes to advance legislation, forcing both parties to negotiate and compromise. Without it, whichever party controls the Senate could ram through extreme laws without checks or balances — including radical policies on voting, abortion, and spending.

Manchin has been one of its fiercest defenders, famously calling it the “Holy Grail of democracy.”

In August 2024, Manchin publicly refused to endorse Kamala Harris for president after she vowed to eliminate the filibuster to pass federal abortion legislation.

“If she gets rid of that, this would be the House on steroids,”
Manchin warned during a CNN interview, noting it would destroy the Senate’s unique role in America’s system of government.

Manchin Wanted GOP to Take Back the Senate

In one of the book’s most shocking revelations, Manchin admits he quietly hoped Republicans would win back control of the Senate in 2024, calling them “the only hope for preserving the Senate as an institution.”

His words echo current Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-SD), who vowed at the start of the year to defend the filibuster at all costs, ensuring it remains a firewall against the left’s radical agenda.

The Bigger Picture: Power vs. Principles

Manchin’s blistering takedown of Schumer highlights what many conservatives have long believed — Democrat leaders will do anything to secure more power, even if it means dismantling America’s most important institutions.

With Schumer and Biden pushing to rewrite Senate rules, Republicans and moderates like Manchin have become the last line of defense against Washington’s slide toward one-party rule.

For conservative Americans, this battle isn’t just about a rule in the Senate — it’s about preserving freedom, debate, and the balance of power our Founding Fathers fought to protect.

Bottom Line

Joe Manchin’s new book is more than just a memoir — it’s a warning shot. If Democrats succeed in eliminating the filibuster, it could change America forever, silencing millions of voices and giving unchecked power to the Washington elite.

For now, thanks to Manchin, Sinema, and a united Republican front, the filibuster lives on — but the fight is far from over.
