Senate Leader Makes Major New Endorsement
Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-SD) has thrown his full support behind Rep. Ashley Hinson (R-IA) in the race to replace retiring Sen. Joni Ernst (R-IA) — a move that immediately reshapes the Republican primary.
“We need strong conservative fighters in the U.S. Senate — and Ashley Hinson is exactly that,” Thune declared. “Ashley has been a tireless champion for President Trump’s America First agenda, fighting to secure our border, stop runaway spending, and defend Iowa’s farmers. I have no doubt she’ll bring that same passion to the Senate.”
Hinson, first elected to the House in 2020, also secured a critical endorsement from Sen. Tim Scott (R-SC), who leads the National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC). Scott’s backing signals that top GOP leadership is rallying behind Hinson to strengthen Trump’s majority in the Senate.
Adding to the momentum, Alex Latcham, executive director of the Senate Leadership Fund, praised Hinson’s record and pledged financial support.
“Ashley Hinson is a proven conservative warrior for Iowa. She’s fought to lower costs for families, protect family farms, and enforce border security. With her unmatched fundraising power and winning track record, she’s the clear choice to keep Iowa red and strong,” Latcham said.
Hinson faces a primary challenge from former State Sen. Jim Carlin, who ran unsuccessfully against Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-IA) in 2022.
Her campaign is already off to a strong start, reporting $854,000 raised in the second quarter and more than $2.8 million cash on hand — a major advantage heading into a high-stakes election year.
With President Trump back in the White House, Iowa’s Senate seat is crucial to advancing the America First agenda and stopping the radical left from reversing the progress made since Trump’s return to power.
