Rep. Ashley Hinson (R-Iowa) is signaling a run for the U.S. Senate in 2026, stepping up to carry President Trump’s America First agenda after Sen. Joni Ernst’s retirement.
Hinson: Trump Needs a Loyal Fighter in the Senate
Hinson made clear that Iowa families deserve a senator who will fight to cut Washington’s reckless spending, deport illegal immigrants, and protect hardworking Americans.
“President Trump needs a fighter in the Senate who will always have his back,” Hinson wrote on X. “I’ve stood shoulder to shoulder with him in the House to advance the America First agenda, and I would be his strongest ally in the Senate.”

Sen. Joni Ernst, a respected conservative voice and combat veteran, confirmed Tuesday that she will not seek reelection. “This was no easy decision. I love my state and I love my country,” Ernst said.
Her retirement leaves open one of the most important Senate seats in the nation. Before her announcement, the Cook Political Report rated Iowa’s seat as “likely Republican,” but Democrats are expected to pour money and resources into the state to try to flip control of the Senate.

In a joint statement, they attacked President Trump’s policies, claiming: “Republicans see the writing on the wall: spiking costs and ripping away health care has done so much damage that they would rather leave the Senate than defend their actions.”
But conservatives see Ashley Hinson as one of the GOP’s strongest voices, a reporter-turned-lawmaker who has stood with Trump and is ready to help secure a Republican Senate majority.
