Newsom will use anything for political gain.

A heartbreaking tragedy in Minneapolis has once again exposed the ugly side of politics. Two young children were killed and 17 others injured when a gunman opened fire at Annunciation Catholic Church during the first Mass of the school year.

Instead of focusing on the grieving families, California Governor Gavin Newsom rushed to social media to attack Republicans. Calling the GOP “sick,” Newsom accused conservatives of doing “absolutely nothing” to stop violence. His response sparked outrage, with critics blasting him for shamelessly trying to score political points in the middle of a national tragedy.

Republican National Committee spokesman Zach Parkinson didn’t hold back, telling Newsweek: “Children are dead, and the only thing this psychopath can think about is how to politicize it to advance his career. Gavin Newsom isn’t just a terrible governor, he’s a vile human being.”

Newsom, widely seen as a potential 2028 Democrat presidential candidate, wasn’t alone. Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey dismissed “thoughts and prayers” as meaningless, and MSNBC host Jen Psaki — President Biden’s former press secretary — mocked Americans who turn to faith in times of crisis.

But while Democrats lashed out, President Donald Trump struck a far different tone. From the White House, Trump expressed his prayers for the victims and their families, confirmed the FBI was on scene, and ordered flags at half-staff nationwide to honor the lives lost. Trump’s message was one of unity, compassion, and leadership.

Federal officials identified the shooter as 23-year-old Robin Westman, who took his own life after carrying out the attack. FBI Director Kash Patel said the massacre is being investigated as domestic terrorism and a hate crime against Catholics.

For millions of Americans, the contrast could not be clearer:

  • Democrats like Gavin Newsom used this tragedy to attack their political opponents.
  • President Trump responded with dignity, compassion, and real leadership.

At a time when families are crying out for comfort, Democrats are doubling down on division. And voters are left to ask: do we want leaders who exploit tragedy, or leaders who lift our nation up?
