Democrat Trashes Trump’s Meeting With Putin
Sen. Chris Murphy (D-Conn.) is blasting President Donald Trump’s historic summit with Russian President Vladimir Putin, accusing the meeting of “sending a signal that all is forgiven” and “legitimizing” the Kremlin leader in front of the world.
Appearing on MSNBC’s Morning Joe, Murphy claimed that Trump’s willingness to meet with Putin — in a high-stakes push for peace — is a major boost for Russia. “He is standing with the most powerful person in the world, and it is a sign from Donald Trump that all is forgiven,” Murphy said. “This is a big moment for Putin because he is being legitimized in the eyes of the United States and the world.”
Murphy Doubts Peace Progress Without Zelensky
Murphy insisted there could be “no breakthrough” in Ukraine peace talks because Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky was not at the table.
“You can’t sign a peace agreement if Zelensky isn’t there,” he argued, dismissing the summit’s potential.
Democrats like Murphy have suggested that Putin may use the meeting to gain leverage over Ukraine, portraying the Russian leader as having the “upper hand.”
High Stakes in Alaska
The Trump-Putin talks began at 3:30 p.m. EDT following a press conference before a backdrop reading “Pursuing Peace.” Just hours earlier, President Trump had posted “HIGH STAKES” on Truth Social, underlining the importance of the meeting.
Murphy labeled the gathering a “photo-op,” accusing Trump of “legitimizing war crimes” and emboldening dictators around the globe. He warned that if no deal is reached and Trump does not increase weapons or sanctions, it could give Putin a “green light” to continue the war without U.S. retaliation.
Trump’s America First Approach
While Democrats claim the meeting is dangerous, Trump supporters see it as a bold America First strategy — using strength at the negotiating table instead of endless, costly wars. The President has made clear that securing peace and protecting U.S. interests remain his top priorities.
In an era where political theater often replaces results, Trump’s willingness to meet with powerful world leaders — and do so on America’s terms — is exactly why his supporters believe he can bring real change to Washington and the world stage.
