Powerful New Bill Targets Corrupt Public Officials Abusing the System
Senator John Cornyn, R-Texas, is taking a bold stand against political corruption with a new bill aimed squarely at public officials who manipulate the system for personal financial gain. And with major allegations swirling around two prominent Democrats—New York Attorney General Letitia James and California Senator Adam Schiff—the timing couldn’t be more explosive.
Cornyn’s legislation, the Law Enforcement Tools to Interdict Troubling Investments in Abodes (LETITIA) Act, is designed to increase criminal penalties for public servants who engage in federal bank fraud, mortgage fraud, loan fraud, and tax fraud—all crimes that hit the financial system and American taxpayers hard.
Letitia James Under DOJ Investigation for Mortgage Fraud
Earlier this year, the Department of Justice quietly opened an investigation into Letitia James—best known for her highly publicized civil case against President Donald Trump and the Trump Organization. But now, the spotlight is turning back on her.
A letter from Federal Housing Finance Director Bill Pulte triggered the probe, outlining serious discrepancies in James’ property records:
- A Virginia mortgage application listing the property as her “primary residence,” while she owns a multifamily home in Brooklyn.
- A building permit stating her Brooklyn property has five residences, when the city only allows four.
- A mortgage application bizarrely identifying her as her father’s spouse.
These aren’t clerical errors—they’re potentially federal crimes.
Cornyn: “This Bill Empowers President Trump to Hold Corrupt Politicians Accountable”
“This bill would give President Trump and law enforcement the authority to go after corrupt officials like New York’s Letitia James who deceive the public, betray their oath, and violate federal law,” Cornyn stated.
Backed by six Senate Republicans, the LETITIA Act sets new, tougher penalties for elected officials caught abusing their positions.
Adam Schiff Also Accused of Deceiving Lenders
Cornyn’s bill also follows new allegations against Sen. Adam Schiff, D-Calif., for allegedly falsifying property records and bank documents.
Pulte sent a second letter to the DOJ accusing Schiff of claiming multiple homes as “primary residences”—one in Maryland and another in California—potentially to secure better mortgage rates.
Schiff’s team called the accusations “false” and politically motivated, arguing that the disclosures were done with legal oversight and that he only claimed one modest tax exemption.
But conservatives aren’t buying it.
What the LETITIA Act Actually Does
The legislation introduces strict new federal penalties for public officials who commit fraud while in office:
- 1-year mandatory minimum for bank fraud
- 1-year mandatory minimum for mortgage or loan fraud
- 6-month mandatory minimum for tax fraud
- Repeat offenders face up to 5 years for financial fraud
These are not symbolic penalties—they are designed to send a message: If you betray the public’s trust, you will go to prison.
Cracking Down on Corruption in the Biden-Schiff-James Era
For too long, Democrats like Letitia James and Adam Schiff have operated with impunity—targeting conservatives while hiding their own misdeeds. But the tide is turning.
With President Trump back in action and Republican lawmakers stepping up, America is seeing the rise of a new accountability movement—one that prioritizes law and order, integrity in government, and equal justice for all.
The LETITIA Act is just the beginning.
