This is unacceptable.
A St. Louis soccer fan was kicked out of a Major League Soccer match for wearing a red “Make America Great Again” hat — and now the backlash is growing.
Michael Weitzel, the man at the center of the controversy, recorded the shocking moment as security escorted him out of the stadium. His alleged offense? Wearing a hat in support of President Donald Trump.
In the now-viral video, Weitzel explains that he was told by stadium staff that his MAGA hat violated league rules because it’s considered a “political symbol.” One security guard, caught on camera, even admitted he personally supports Trump but said the rules left them no choice.
However, when Weitzel pointed to Pride flags displayed throughout the stadium, he was told those were “pre-approved.” That response immediately raised eyebrows and questions about selective enforcement and double standards.
MLS Rules—or Political Bias?
According to Major League Soccer’s fan code of conduct, political messaging is prohibited. The rules ban signs, symbols, or clothing that promote or oppose any political party, candidate, or legislative issue.
But many are now asking: Are these rules being enforced fairly—or just used to silence conservative voices?
Weitzel was initially told he could remove the hat and re-enter. But when he attempted to do just that, another guard told him it was “too late”—and he was forced to leave the game entirely.
Patriotic Hat Out, Pride Flags In?
The incident has ignited a firestorm online, with many conservatives calling out what they see as a blatant case of anti-Trump discrimination.
“If those flags over there aren’t political, then what is?” Weitzel asked in the video. “Are the rules being enforced equally on everyone?”
Security insisted the policy is applied the same for all. But critics aren’t buying it.

DOJ Stepping In
In a major development, Gregg Keller of the St. Louis Dispatch confirmed that the Department of Justice’s Civil Rights Division is now reviewing the footage to determine whether Weitzel’s rights were violated.
As the video continues to spread, many Americans—especially older voters who proudly support President Trump—are asking: Has supporting your country and your president now become grounds for removal at a public event?
The Bigger Question
This isn’t just about one man and a hat. This is about freedom of speech, fair treatment, and whether conservative Americans are being silenced in public spaces.
For many, the MAGA hat isn’t just a political statement—it’s a symbol of patriotism, economic freedom, border security, and love for America. And now, even that is under attack.
