Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., is now facing intense heat from her own radical base after breaking with far-left activists on a major national security issue—U.S. funding for Israel’s missile defense systems.

At the heart of the controversy is Ocasio-Cortez’s decision to vote against a Republican-led amendment to cut $500 million in U.S. taxpayer dollars from the Iron Dome, a critical Israeli defense system that protects civilians from terrorist rocket attacks.

The amendment, introduced by Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Ga., aimed to halt funding for Israeli defense as part of the broader $832 billion fiscal year 2026 defense appropriations bill. While the amendment failed overwhelmingly—only six House members voted in favor—the real story is the bitter infighting erupting within the Democratic Party.

Socialists Slam AOC: ‘She Betrayed the Movement’

The Democratic Socialists of America (DSA), one of the most radical political organizations in the country, issued a harsh rebuke of Ocasio-Cortez, claiming she betrayed the anti-Israel movement.

“A true arms embargo means no weapons should reach a military engaged in genocide—without exception,” the DSA stated in a public release. “That’s why we strongly object to Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s vote, which enabled $500 million in U.S. funding to support Israel’s Iron Dome defense system.”

While AOC did vote against the overall defense spending bill, far-left groups say that doesn’t make up for what they view as an unforgivable vote to support Israel’s self-defense.

The DSA went further, accusing Israel of conducting a “genocide” and calling Ocasio-Cortez’s position “incongruous” with her past rhetoric. “If she acknowledges a genocide is happening, how can she vote to fund it?” they asked.

AOC Pushes Back—But the Damage Is Done

After the vote, Ocasio-Cortez took to X (formerly Twitter) in an attempt to explain her decision. She blasted Greene’s amendment as “deceptive,” claiming it only stripped away defensive systems while allowing offensive munitions to continue flowing.

“Marjorie Taylor Greene’s amendment does nothing to cut off offensive aid to Israel nor end the flow of US munitions being used in Gaza,” AOC wrote. “What it does do is cut off defensive Iron Dome capacities.”

But that explanation fell flat with her critics on the left, who argue that supporting any military aid to Israel—defensive or not—makes her complicit in what they call “imperialist aggression.”

This isn’t the first time Ocasio-Cortez has stumbled with her activist base. Back in 2021, she famously cried on the House floor after casting a controversial “present” vote on another Iron Dome funding bill, leaving many questioning her convictions.

Radical Left Splinters as Support for Israel Divides Democrats

Progressives like Reps. Rashida Tlaib, Ilhan Omar, Summer Lee, and Al Green were praised by the DSA for voting for Greene’s amendment—putting them in direct opposition to AOC.

For many Americans watching this unfold, the message is clear: Democrats are now in open warfare over basic questions of national security, foreign policy, and U.S. support for longtime allies like Israel.

While Republicans remain united in standing with Israel and prioritizing America’s national defense, Democrats continue to fracture—torn between moderates, socialists, and hardline anti-Israel activists.

The broader bill, which passed the House, calls for a staggering $832 billion in defense spending—a number that raises serious questions about accountability, oversight, and the role of U.S. foreign aid.

That’s not even counting the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), which determines how that money will be spent. The Greene amendment was a bold attempt to hold the line on bloated spending and protect American taxpayers.

But in Washington, common sense rarely prevails—especially when entrenched interests, defense contractors, and radical activists are pulling the strings behind the scenes.
