In a formal letter to the White House, Hochul warned that recent drone sightings near New York City and the Hudson Valley exposed serious weaknesses in the nation’s ability to detect and defend against potential threats. “Federal authorities are falling behind, and state agencies are hamstrung,” she wrote.

The Democrat governor also sent a second letter to Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-SD), Speaker of the House Mike Johnson (R-LA), Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY), and House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY), urging Congress to give states more power to counter aerial threats before disaster strikes.
