Democrats To Push For Government Shutdown?

Democratic Rep. Suhas Subramanyam of Virginia is now backing a drastic move that could put millions of Americans at risk — threatening a government shutdown to stop Republican efforts to rein in runaway spending.

At the heart of the fight? A commonsense rescissions package backed by President Trump that would slash over $9 billion in wasteful spending, including massive cuts to foreign aid and taxpayer-funded liberal media programs like public broadcasting.

In an interview on NewsNation’s The Hill Sunday, Subramanyam said it’s time for Democrats to “stand up for the American people.” But critics say his comments expose the real priorities of today’s Democrat Party — protecting global giveaways and partisan programming, even if it means bringing Washington to a standstill.

“I’m hearing from both sides,” Subramanyam admitted. “They’re fed up with this administration and want change.” Yet instead of supporting fiscal responsibility, he doubled down on using shutdown threats as political leverage, saying Democrats must “strike a hard bargain.”

Meanwhile, Republicans are standing firm behind President Trump’s call for smart, strategic cuts that put America First. The GOP-led rescissions package targets programs that funnel taxpayer dollars to overseas projects and left-leaning media outlets — spending priorities that most conservatives agree do not serve working Americans.

Democrats argue that reversing previously approved funding would damage bipartisan cooperation, especially as the clock ticks toward a potential September shutdown. But for many on the right, this is just more obstruction from a party desperate to defend bloated budgets and globalist priorities.

“We need to use every bit of leverage we have,” Subramanyam said. “And we have to fight.”
