Is Trump A Law Abiding President?

Trump Sues California

Egg prices in California are breaking records — and the Trump administration is taking action.

In a major legal challenge, President Donald Trump’s administration has filed a federal lawsuit accusing California of triggering the historic rise in egg prices through overbearing regulations on farmers.

According to the lawsuit, a combination of California laws—including AB 1437, Proposition 2, and the controversial Proposition 12—has “interfered with traditional, cost-effective farming methods” and led to unnecessary inflation at the grocery store. These policies, the administration argues, have effectively banned many common egg production practices that once kept prices low for everyday Americans.

“California’s overreach is punishing working families and seniors who rely on affordable groceries,” the administration states.

California’s Egg Laws Under Fire

Passed in 2008, Prop 2 introduced ambiguous animal welfare mandates, later reinforced by AB 1437, which set strict standards on egg quality. Then came Prop 12, approved by voters in 2018, which imposed costly space requirements for egg-laying hens—rules that apply not just to California farmers but to producers nationwide who sell into the state.

These laws, the lawsuit claims, are driving up the price of a dozen eggs and contributing to nationwide food inflation, all while stepping on federal authority under a 1970 law governing interstate commerce.

What About Bird Flu?

While liberal media outlets point to this year’s avian flu outbreak as the main cause of price hikes, the Trump administration’s suit places blame squarely on Sacramento’s overregulation.

The message is clear: California’s radical agenda is hurting American families.

Newsom Mocks Lawsuit—But Californians Aren’t Laughing

In typical fashion, Governor Gavin Newsom’s office tried to deflect with sarcasm, posting on X: “Trump is back to blaming California for everything.” The post went on to joke that Trump would soon blame California for the fall of Rome or the extinction of the dinosaurs.

But for hardworking families—and especially seniors on fixed incomes—skyrocketing grocery prices aren’t a punchline. With egg prices nearly doubling in some regions, many see this lawsuit as a necessary pushback against blue-state overreach.
