Trump’s Big, Beautiful Bill In Court
President Trump’s landmark second-term legislative victory is now entering the courtroom — and it’s already shaking up Washington.
Dubbed his “big, beautiful bill,” the sweeping legislation is being hailed by Second Amendment advocates as a historic breakthrough. Among its most powerful provisions: the elimination of the longstanding $200 tax under the National Firearms Act of 1934 (NFA) on silencers, short-barreled rifles, and similar firearms. Gun rights groups say this could be the first major step toward ending federal gun registries altogether.
“This is a once-in-a-generation chance to dismantle one of the most unconstitutional gun control laws still on the books,” said Erich Pratt of Gun Owners of America.
The National Rifle Association praised the bill as the “biggest blow yet” to the outdated NFA — a law that’s burdened law-abiding Americans for over 90 years.
Trump signed the bill on July 4, calling it a “triumph of democracy on the birthday of democracy.” The package fulfills key campaign promises, including tax relief for overtime and tip-based wages, enhanced immigration enforcement, and expanded national defense funding.
But the fight is far from over.
Gun rights groups wasted no time in taking their challenge to court. They’ve filed suit in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Texas — where Trump-appointed Judge Wes Hendrix will hear the case. The lawsuit argues that with the tax removed, the NFA no longer has constitutional grounds to stand on.
Meanwhile, liberal judges are already trying to chip away at the new law.
On Monday, Obama-appointed Judge Indira Talwani abruptly blocked a provision that would have cut Medicaid funding to Planned Parenthood — issuing the decision without a hearing or even a response from the government. Conservatives blasted the move as yet another example of judicial overreach.
“This wasn’t just a mistake — it was an outrageous grab at legislative power by the bench,” said Sen. Mike Lee (R-UT). “Judges like this need to be held accountable. Impeachment should be on the table.”
A hearing is scheduled for July 21 to determine if the injunction will be extended.
Despite the interference from activist judges, Trump’s legislative win is a bold return to conservative priorities. The bill passed the House 218-214 and cleared the Senate with Vice President Vance casting the tie-breaking vote.
Other highlights include:
- Extension of Trump’s 2017 tax cuts
- Elimination of taxes on tipped wages
- Higher cap on state and local tax (SALT) deductions
- $150 billion boost for border security and ICE operations
- $150 billion in additional defense funding
- Rollback of excessive green energy subsidies
Attorney General Pam Bondi confirmed Tuesday that the administration will challenge the judicial ruling favoring Planned Parenthood.
“We’re on it,” Bondi said. “No rogue judge will stand in the way of the will of the American people.”
As the legal battles unfold, one thing is clear — President Trump is not backing down. His fight to restore America’s constitutional freedoms, protect the unborn, and strengthen our national security is just beginning.
