Here’s what the GOP is doing.

America is facing a spending crisis—and President Donald Trump is taking action. His new signature bill, dubbed the One Big Beautiful Bill, is stirring headlines and outrage from the mainstream media. But what’s really in it?

At the center of this sweeping legislation is a bold plan to overhaul Medicaid, restore fiscal sanity, and roll back billions in wasteful green energy subsidies from the Biden era.

🔧 Work Requirements for Medicaid: Common Sense or Controversy?

Conservatives argue it’s long overdue. Under the Senate version of the bill, able-bodied adults—including parents of teens 15 and older—must work at least 80 hours per month to qualify for Medicaid benefits.

This simple reform brings accountability to a system that’s ballooned out of control. Right now, over 70 million Americans are enrolled in Medicaid—yet only 35 million live below the poverty line. Where’s the oversight?

“This is about saving Medicaid for those who truly need it, and stopping the fraud, waste, and abuse,” said Sen. Markwayne Mullin (R-OK) on Meet the Press.

The Congressional Budget Office estimates the bill’s Medicaid reforms alone will save $930 billion over the next decade. That’s money that can go toward securing America’s financial future—not expanding bloated government programs.

🏥 Pushback From the Left—and Even a Few Republicans

While the bill enjoys broad support from fiscal conservatives, a few GOP senators have raised concerns. Sen. Thom Tillis (R-NC) voted against moving the bill forward, citing fears that his state could lose federal funds.

“I can’t support a bill that puts North Carolina’s hospitals and rural health care at risk,” Tillis said.

Sen. Josh Hawley (R-MO) also expressed hesitation but stopped short of a “no” vote, calling for balanced reforms that protect the working poor without handing out unchecked tax breaks to giant corporations.

💸 Protecting Taxpayers from Illegal Immigrants and Out-of-Control Spending

The bill also includes powerful new provisions to block illegal immigrants from accessing Medicaid—something that’s long overdue, according to Sen. Jim Banks (R-IN).

“This is about putting American citizens first,” Banks said on Fox News Sunday. “We’re removing illegals from Medicaid and enforcing work requirements. It’s the right thing to do.”

A proposed amendment from Sen. Rick Scott (R-FL) would lower federal Medicaid contributions for able-bodied, childless adults—a move designed to please fiscal hawks and reduce the national deficit.

🌱 Green New Deal? Not on Trump’s Watch

Perhaps the most dramatic rollback in the bill is its dismantling of Biden’s green energy slush fund. Under the Trump-backed plan, tax credits for wind, solar, and EV projects would expire by 2027, and an excise tax would hit solar and wind developers hard.

Tech billionaire Elon Musk wasn’t happy. “This bill will destroy future jobs!” Musk shouted on X. “It’s insane!”

But Sen. Banks fired back: “We’re cutting $1.6 trillion in Biden-era climate scams. This is about ending waste and focusing on real American jobs—not fantasy energy schemes.”

🇺🇸 Bottom Line: A Return to Conservative Values

This bill is a powerful signal that President Trump and Senate Republicans are serious about:

  • Cutting government waste
  • Securing healthcare for those truly in need
  • Stopping handouts to illegal immigrants
  • Eliminating radical climate programs
  • Protecting taxpayers and restoring economic sanity

As America faces skyrocketing debt, crumbling entitlement programs, and out-of-control spending, the One Big Beautiful Bill offers something Washington hasn’t seen in decades: real reform with real results.
