Stephen A. Smith Sides With MAGA

Outspoken sports personality and cultural commentator Stephen A. Smith is turning heads once again—this time by taking the Democratic Party to task and praising the GOP for doing what he calls “a far better job connecting with real Americans.”

In a Friday interview with NewsNation’s Chris Cuomo, Smith didn’t mince words. He said Democrats are losing touch with everyday voters while conservative voices are gaining strength and credibility across the country.

“This is why Republicans are winning,” Smith declared. “They’ve got strong leadership—starting with a president who won both the popular vote and key swing states—and their message is actually connecting with people.”

Smith pointed to rising conservative voices like Candace Owens as examples of how Republican viewpoints are breaking through to mainstream America. According to him, the GOP is focused on results, not political theater—and that’s exactly what Americans over 50 want to see.

“Their voices resonate. The Left just doesn’t get it,” Smith said. “If Democrats don’t figure out a real, populist message soon, they’ll get wiped out—not just in the midterms but in the general election of 2028.”

Smith has been sharply critical of the Left in recent months. Back in May, he called for a “purge” of the Democratic Party, saying it had lost its way. In this latest interview, he singled out liberal darlings like Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) and Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) as prime examples of style over substance.

“They’re loud, they’re all over television, and they’re popular with young people,” Smith said. “But when it comes to actual results? Pretty close to nothing. What have they really done for the American people?”

Smith’s take echoes what many older voters are already feeling: the Democratic Party has become too focused on fringe causes and not enough on kitchen-table issues like the economy, border security, and law and order.

In a notable moment of political bridge-building, Smith even praised President Donald Trump during a recent NewsNation town hall alongside Bill O’Reilly and Cuomo. The event sparked conversation about Smith’s growing influence in political commentary—and possibly even higher aspirations.

His podcast, The Stephen A. Smith Show, has also welcomed high-profile guests, including Democrat Rep. Ro Khanna (D-CA), for discussions on immigration, urban policy, and Trump’s rising popularity among minorities and working-class voters.

As 2028 draws closer, Smith’s words may serve as a warning bell for Democrats—and a sign of the growing cultural shift toward conservative, common-sense values.
