Bernie Sanders Insults Kamala?
In a revealing interview, Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) claimed Kamala Harris could have been president—if she had taken cues from far-left Democrat Zohran Mamdani, who is poised to become New York City’s next mayor.
Speaking to Politico Magazine, Sanders applauded Mamdani’s “grassroots” campaign strategy, saying it was a model Harris should have followed instead of relying on big donors and TV ads.
“If Kamala Harris had stopped listening to political consultants and started knocking on doors with a progressive agenda, she’d be president today,” Sanders said.
Mamdani, a democratic socialist and immigrant from Uganda, shocked many on Tuesday by apparently defeating former New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo in the Democratic primary for mayor of New York City. If certified, Mamdani would become the first Muslim and Asian mayor of the nation’s largest city.
Critics are raising concerns over Mamdani’s extreme-left views and ties to the Democratic Socialists of America, a group many believe is pulling the Democratic Party further away from the values of working Americans.
Quoting Nelson Mandela, Mamdani posted on X after his apparent win: “What once felt impossible is now reality. It’s done—and it’s thanks to all of you.”
Bernie Sanders has long pushed the Democratic Party toward a radical left-wing agenda. Just last year, he accused party leaders of ignoring working-class Americans, a move he claims cost Democrats the White House and control of the Senate in 2024.
But many voters see it differently. As the Democratic Party shifts further left, longtime voters—including some moderates—are walking away.
