Republicans Call For “Alligator Alcatraz”

MIAMI, FL — In a bold move to tackle the illegal immigration crisis, Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier has announced a plan to create a new detention facility deep in the Florida Everglades, jokingly referred to as “Alligator Alcatraz.”

Low-Cost, High-Security Solution to Illegal Immigration

Uthmeier explained in a video posted on X (formerly Twitter) that the remote 39-square-mile site offers a natural solution to the escalating border crisis. Located at the Miami-Dade-Collier Training and Transition Airport, the facility would rely on Florida’s natural wildlife—alligators and pythons—as part of the security perimeter.

“You don’t need to spend millions on fences when nature already provides the deterrent,” Uthmeier said. “If illegal immigrants escape, what’s waiting for them isn’t freedom—it’s the Everglades.”

This cost-effective strategy could save taxpayers millions in fencing and surveillance infrastructure.

Facility Could House Up to 1,000 Illegal Immigrants Within 60 Days

The plan includes a temporary detention center that could be operational within 30 to 60 days and accommodate up to 1,000 individuals who entered the U.S. illegally. With an airstrip on-site, transporting detainees would be streamlined and secure.

According to Fox Business, which received exclusive access to the site, the airport’s infrastructure is ideal for quickly deploying immigration enforcement.

“This is an opportunity for Florida to lead,” Uthmeier said. “We’re ready to work with Miami-Dade and Collier counties to protect our state and uphold the rule of law.”

Uthmeier Defends Trump’s Immigration Agenda Despite Federal Pushback

Uthmeier has been a consistent supporter of President Donald Trump’s America First immigration policies. Just days before the announcement, a federal judge found him in civil contempt for moving forward with a state law that criminalizes illegal entry into Florida—despite a temporary injunction.

But the Attorney General made his position clear:

“If being held in contempt is the price of defending the Constitution and supporting President Trump’s fight against illegal immigration, then so be it.”

Florida Leads the Nation in Cracking Down on Illegal Immigration

With border chaos continuing and the Biden administration’s immigration policies under fire, Florida is taking matters into its own hands. Uthmeier’s plan offers real action—not rhetoric.

This move is being applauded by conservatives across the country who are demanding stronger border enforcement, protection of taxpayer dollars, and a return to law and order.
